(AEU) is a quality Electrical Services Contractor that specializes in design build electrical systems for Commercial, Industrial, and Detention Facilities. We manage projects that range from maintenance and service calls to turn-key ground up electrical/security design and installations. We are a growing company with many opportunities and we like to promote within. AEU currently has an opening for a mid-high level Detention Electronics Technician. The Detention Electronics Technician is responsible for the installation, configuration, startup, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of detention security electronic systems and associated equipment. This position is focused on factory equipment, system components, programming/configuration, device-level connections, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning rather than electrical construction. Electrical infrastructure, permanent building wiring, and other work requiring an electrical license will be performed by appropriately licensed electrical personnel where required. The ideal candidate is mechanically and technically inclined, comfortable working with computers and electronic equipment, organized, dependable, and capable of troubleshooting systems involving multiple technologies. The technician shall have the ability to perform, or be trained to perform, the following: Install, mount, assemble, configure, test, troubleshoot, repair, and replace detention security electronic equipment and system components. Work with detention security devices including electronic and pneumatic locks, door position switches, request-to-exit devices, control stations, intercoms, paging equipment, indicator lights, push buttons, and other associated field devices. Perform device-level termination, connection, testing, and troubleshooting where permitted and where electrical licensing is not required. Troubleshoot low-voltage control circuits, communication wiring, equipment power supplies, relays, inputs, outputs, and associated electronic components. Understand basic AC/DC electrical theory as it applies to troubleshooting electronic equipment, including voltage, current, resistance, relays, power supplies, and control circuits. Use digital multimeters and other diagnostic equipment to verify voltage, continuity, resistance, device operation, and control signals. Work with PLC-based detention control systems, including PLC processors, I/O modules, communication modules, relays, power supplies, and associated field devices. Assist with PLC and HMI system startup, configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning. Work with HMI/operator control systems and understand their interaction with PLC-controlled equipment and field devices. Install, configure, test, troubleshoot, and replace CCTV equipment including IP cameras, network switches, PoE equipment, video management servers, network video recorders, workstations, and associated hardware. Configure and troubleshoot Vicon Valerus and other company-supported video management platforms. Install, configure, test, troubleshoot, and replace access-control equipment including card readers, request-to-exit devices, door interfaces, controllers, inputs/outputs, and associated system equipment. Understand basic networking concepts including IP addressing, subnetting, Ethernet, network switches, PoE, device configuration, patching, and basic network troubleshooting. Connect, configure, and troubleshoot network-connected security equipment. Perform equipment-level copper and fiber connections, patching, testing, and troubleshooting where permitted. Read and interpret project drawings, wiring diagrams, point-to-point diagrams, schematics, riser diagrams, equipment manuals, sequences of operation, and manufacturer documentation. Perform system point-to-point verification and functional testing. Diagnose problems involving electronic hardware, software, networking, communications, mechanical hardware, and field devices. Perform adjustments, repairs, and replacement of mechanical and electromechanical detention equipment. Assist with system startup, commissioning, acceptance testing, customer demonstrations, and system turnover. Document deficiencies and identify when corrective work requires a licensed electrician or other trade.
Skills/Qualifications needed:
Strong mechanical and technical aptitude. Ability to satisfy applicable background screening and facility-access requirements. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities. Ability and willingness to learn unfamiliar electronic, mechanical, networking, controls, and software systems. Basic computer proficiency including Windows-based computers, email, web browsers, electronic documentation, and common office applications. Ability to learn and use manufacturer-specific configuration and diagnostic software. Professional communication and customer-service skills. Ability to work independently with limited supervision. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Ability to clearly communicate technical findings to customers, electricians, project managers, manufacturers, and other technicians. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Willing and able to travel, including overnight and extended-duration travel when required. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to climb ladders, work from lifts, work overhead, bend, kneel, and perform physical tasks associated with equipment installation, service, and maintenance. Willingness and ability to work in active detention and correctional environments and comply with facility security requirements. Previous experience in the following areas is beneficial but not necessarily all required: Detention or correctional facility electronics. Electronic or pneumatic detention locking systems. PLC/HMI controls. CCTV and video management systems. Access control. Intercom and paging systems. Computer networking. Industrial controls or automation. Electronic equipment repair. Mechanical or electromechanical equipment troubleshooting. Manufacturer or factory field-service work.
