You'll own PCB design and microcontroller integration, and you'll work with firmware, mechanical, thermal, and optical engineers to take products from concept through production. The work centers on embedded systems, CANBus, RTOS, wireless connectivity, and IoT, and the products you design will be used in industrial automation. What you'll do Design hardware built to hold up in rugged, industrial-grade conditions Work with firmware, mechanical, thermal, and optical teams on new product development Implement communication protocols including CANBus and SAE J1939, making sure designs meet mechanical and thermal specifications Write technical specs and proposals that support cost-effective, scalable designs Build proof-of-concept prototypes and support DFMEA documentation Develop and run validation test plans, including alpha and beta rounds and DVP&R stress testing Refine designs for manufacturability and for integration into larger systems Write technical documentation and internal white papers to share knowledge across the team Maintain accurate design revisions and version control throughout the project lifecycle What you bring 3+ years of circuit and hardware design experience Experience with Altium or a comparable CAD tool for schematic capture and PCB layout Working background in embedded systems (RTOS or Linux), with coding experience in C, C++, or Python Solid understanding of CANBus and
SAE J1939
Exposure to GHz-range microprocessors and wireless technologies such as Bluetooth and cellular Hands-on experience with lab equipment, including oscilloscopes and logic analyzers Working knowledge of PCB manufacturing and DFM principles Understanding of device-to-cloud embedded system architecture Education Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field required Advanced degree or graduate coursework preferred This is an on-site role in the Pittsburgh PA area.
