Job Description

A. O. Smith seeks an Engineer to support design, testing, and continuous improvement of residential and commercial water heaters, boilers, and water treatment products. In this role, you will apply core engineering principles to enhance product safety, efficiency, and reliability, partnering closely with manufacturing and quality teams in a plant-based environment. You will conduct root-cause analysis, support new product introductions, and drive productivity and cost improvements. Responsibilities Design, test, and improve water heating and treatment products for residential and commercial applications Apply engineering principles to enhance product performance, reliability, and energy efficiency Support manufacturing teams in resolving technical issues and optimizing production processes Analyze data, run experiments, and document results to guide design decisions and quality improvements Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R D, operations, and quality to launch new products Ensure designs comply with safety, regulatory, and industry standards Prepare technical drawings, specifications, and reports using CAD and engineering tools Participate in continuous improvement and root-cause analysis activities in a plant environment Required Skills Mechanical design Manufacturing process engineering CAD (e.g., Solid Works, Auto CAD) Thermal/fluid systems analysis Product testing and validation Root cause analysis (e.g., 8 D, fishbone) Design for manufacturability (DFM) Quality tools (FMEA, control plans, SPC) Data analysis and report writing Knowledge of safety and industry standards
