POSITION SUMMARY ND
Global Consulting Services, Inc. (NDGCS) is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the design and development of autonomous vehicles. The Mechanical Engineer will create detailed two-dimensional and three-dimensional designs for autonomous vehicles and their components, assemblies, and subassemblies. The selected candidate will be responsible for producing accurate engineering models and drawings while meeting customer requirements, internal standards, applicable regulations, project schedules, and budgets. This position requires strong AutoCAD and 3D-modeling experience. Experience with Creo, autonomous or electric vehicles, lift trucks, hydraulic systems, welding standards, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing is highly desirable.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Complete assigned mechanical-design tasks within established schedules and budgets. Create accurate 2D drawings and 3D models for autonomous vehicles. Develop detailed drawings, assembly drawings, and layout drawings. Design autonomous vehicles and related components, parts, assemblies, and subassemblies. Ensure designs meet customer specifications and internal engineering requirements. Ensure designs comply with applicable global, federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations. Review models and drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and quality. Properly record working hours against the appropriate projects and jobs to support expense and budget tracking. Work with vendors to select appropriate materials, components, and systems. Ensure material and system selections meet applicable quality, performance, and cost requirements. Evaluate existing engineering practices and recommend creative or innovative approaches to design challenges. Support design reviews and collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, vendors, and other project stakeholders. Complete other related engineering assignments as directed by the supervisor.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
At least five years of relevant mechanical-design experience in an industrial field such as construction equipment, agricultural equipment, autonomous vehicles, electric vehicles, material-handling equipment, or a comparable industry. Professional experience with both 3D modeling and detailed 2D design. Proficiency in AutoCAD. Proficiency with 3D-modeling software. Ability to create detailed drawings, assembly drawings, and layout drawings. Ability to produce accurate engineering models and drawings. Ability to complete assignments within established schedules and budgets. Ability to understand and apply customer requirements, internal engineering standards, and applicable safety and environmental regulations. Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to work effectively with engineering teams, manufacturing personnel, vendors, and other stakeholders. Valid driver's license. Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 25%.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Experience with Pro/ENGINEER or Creo. Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). Knowledge of AWS or ISO welding notes and standards. Lift-truck or material-handling equipment experience. Experience specifying and designing hydraulic systems. Experience with autonomous or automated guided vehicles. Knowledge of European autonomous-vehicle designs and manufacturing practices. Knowledge of ISO 3691-4 and
ANSI/ITSDF B56.5
standards. Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) experience. Knowledge of Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing methods.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position operates primarily in a professional office and engineering environment. The employee will routinely use computers, telephones, printers, copiers, and other standard office and engineering equipment. The position may also require interaction with manufacturing, vehicle-testing, vendor, or customer environments, depending on project needs and travel assignments. TRAVEL AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally. A valid driver's license is required. The selected candidate must comply with all current workplace, customer-site, travel, health, and safety requirements, subject to applicable law.
