ABOUT THE POSITION
The Product Engineer supports existing products while assisting with product improvements and new product development. This hands-on role combines sustaining engineering, troubleshooting, prototype fabrication, product testing, technical documentation, and communication with customers, suppliers, and international coworkers.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Support existing products and resolve manufacturing, quality, assembly, and customer-related issues. Investigate product failures, identify root causes, and help implement corrective actions. Develop product, material, process, quality, and cost improvements. Assist with new product concepts, mechanical design, prototyping, testing, and production launch. Create and modify CAD models, drawings, specifications, and other engineering documentation. (SolidWorks preferred) Build prototype and customer samples using 3D printing, painting, finishing, bonding, and mechanical assembly. Test prototype and production products for function, durability, performance, and specification compliance. Develop test methods, fixtures, and procedures as needed. Document test setups, results, observations, and recommendations in clear technical reports. Review production samples, first articles, and proposed engineering changes. Communicate technical information, project updates, test results, and corrective actions to customers and internal teams. Coordinate engineering activities with coworkers in Hong Kong, including engineering, quality, sourcing, and manufacturing teams. Track projects and open issues through completion. Maintain engineering samples, tools, test equipment, materials, and prototype work areas. Perform other engineering and product-development activities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. 3+ years of experience in product engineering, mechanical design, sustaining engineering, manufacturing, or product development. Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills. Experience developing mechanical or consumer products from concept through production. Ability to read and create engineering drawings and understand dimensions, tolerances, materials, and specifications. Experience with 3D CAD software. (SolidWorks preferred) Experience with prototyping, 3D printing, product testing, hand tools, and mechanical assembly. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, suppliers, and international teams. Ability to manage multiple priorities and independently follow tasks through completion. Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar business software.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with injection-molded plastic components, textiles, footwear, sporting goods, or consumer products. Experience with 3D printing and prototype fabrication. Experience supporting suppliers and contract manufacturers. Familiarity with root-cause analysis, engineering change processes, bills of materials, and product specifications. Experience developing test fixtures and validation procedures. Familiarity with PLM, PDM, ERP, or engineering change-management systems.
