Competition Robotics Engineer LEGO Robotics / PID Control

Job Description

We are looking for a hands-on Competition Robotics Engineer to help optimize the performance, precision, and reliability of our
FIRST LEGO
League competition robots. This position is focused primarily on robot engineering and performance optimization , rather than classroom teaching. You will work directly with
LEGO SPIKE
Prime robots on official competition game tables, improving autonomous mission performance through mechanical design, programming, testing, and iterative tuning. Responsibilities Improve robot accuracy, consistency, speed, and mission success rate Develop and tune PID control for precise robot movement Implement and optimize PID line following Program robots using Pybricks / Python Calibrate motors, sensors, turning, and drivetrain behavior Diagnose inconsistent robot runs and identify mechanical vs. software causes Improve LEGO mechanical designs, attachments, gear mechanisms, and drivetrains Test missions repeatedly on the FLL game table and systematically reduce variation Optimize autonomous mission sequences for competition Work with our existing robotics team to develop reliable competition-ready solutions Required Qualifications PID control experience is required. Candidates should have strong hands-on experience in robotics and be comfortable working across both software and mechanical systems. Preferred backgrounds include Robotics, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Controls, or related fields . Experience with LEGO robotics is helpful but not required . Candidates with strong robotics/control experience can learn the
LEGO SPIKE
Prime and Pybricks environment quickly. Strong Plus Experience with mobile robotics, autonomous navigation, control systems, sensor feedback, odometry, trajectory control, motor control, robotics competitions, or
FIRST LEGO
League is highly desirable. What Success Looks Like The goal is simple: make the robot perform better on the competition table. A successful candidate should be able to take a robot that completes a mission inconsistently and systematically improve it until it can execute the mission accurately and repeatedly , using a combination of PID/control algorithms, mechanical improvements, calibration, and iterative testing.
