Junior Accountant/Bookkeeper Jayhawk Transport | Full-time | On-site Jayhawk Transport is hiring a Junior Accountant/Bookkeeper to support day-to-day accounting for our regional truckload operations. This is a hands-on role for someone early in their accounting career who wants real exposure to freight, vendor, and customer billing work, not just textbook entries. What you'll do Process accounts payable and accounts receivable for carriers, vendors, and customers Code and enter invoices, credit memos, and expense reports Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and high-volume transaction accounts Support the weekly and monthly close, including accruals, prepaid schedules, and journal entries Prepare weekly payroll Pull and organize support for fuel, tolls, maintenance, and other transportation costs Assist with customer billing follow-up and vendor payment timing Maintain clean digital filing and audit-ready documentation Partner with operations on rate confirmations, detention, accessorial, and load-related charges as needed Assist with preparing, managing, and analyzing financial reports What we're looking for Associate's or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience) 2+ years of accounting experience (an internship or AP/AR exposure is a plus) In-depth experience with Excel, including formulas, lookups, and pivot tables Familiarity with QuickBooks accounting software Strong attention to detail, analytical ability, and organizational skills Clear written and verbal communicator Interest in logistics or trucking is a plus; we'll teach the industry specifics Why this role You'll learn how money moves through a real trucking business, from load to invoice to cash, while building a solid foundation in core accounting.
