Position Overview:
VALT Enterprizes, Inc. is seeking an experienced, hands-on Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to provide executive financial leadership and help guide the company through its continued growth across defense, research and development (R&D), and commercial aerospace markets. Reporting directly to the President/CEO, the CFO will lead VALT's financial strategy, planning, capital formation, and financial management functions while developing the scalable systems, controls, and capabilities needed to support increasingly complex customer programs and business operations. Serving as a strategic partner to the President/CEO, executive leadership, and the Board of Directors, the CFO will provide decision-oriented financial insight to strengthen performance, manage financial and contractual risk, and support sustainable growth. The CFO will oversee financial planning and analysis, cash flow, financial reporting, program finance, government contract accounting, and direct and indirect cost management while partnering across the organization to evaluate contract economics, manufacturing investments, resource requirements, and strategic growth opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide executive financial leadership and partner with the President/CEO, executive leadership team, and Board of Directors on financial strategy, resource allocation, investment priorities, risk, and key business decisions Lead budgeting, forecasting, financial planning and analysis, cash flow planning, performance reporting, and development of key financial metrics Lead fundraising and capital formation activities, including evaluating equity, debt, government funding, economic development incentives, and other non-dilutive financing opportunities and engaging with investors, lenders, and other capital partners Oversee government contract accounting and financial management for Cost-Plus-Fixed-Fee (CPFF) and other contract structures in accordance with the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS), Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) accounting and audit requirements, and applicable contractual requirements Manage direct and indirect cost structures, indirect rates, cost allocation, contract costing, billing, revenue recognition, and profitability across government and commercial programs Partner with program teams to monitor budgets, forecasts, funding, costs, revenue, profitability, Estimates at Completion (EACs), cash requirements, and financial risks and identify cost and schedule variances requiring corrective action Lead financial support for government and commercial proposals, including cost estimating, pricing strategy, financial modeling, profitability analysis, and evaluation of contract economics and risk Partner with VALT's outsourced accounting team to ensure accurate financial reporting, effective financial close processes, sound accounting practices, and scalable internal controls and governance Oversee cash flow, working capital, treasury activities, banking relationships, liquidity planning, and financial resource management Partner with operations, engineering, program management, contracts, and business development to evaluate manufacturing economics, production capacity, capital equipment, facility investments, make-or-buy decisions, resource requirements, and other strategic growth opportunities Lead financial compliance and audit readiness, including external audits, DCAA reviews, government inquiries, tax requirements, and regulatory matters Develop scalable financial systems, policies, controls, processes, and reporting capabilities to support increasing program complexity, government contracting requirements, and continued organizational growth
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, accounting, economics, or a related business or financial discipline from an accredited institution 12+ years of progressively responsible financial leadership experience, including senior-level responsibility for financial strategy, operations, planning, reporting, controls, and organizational financial performance Significant financial leadership experience within aerospace, defense, government contracting, advanced technology, or another highly regulated industry Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, forecasting, financial planning and analysis, cash flow management, financial reporting, and long-range financial planning Experience leading or supporting capital formation activities involving equity, debt, government funding, economic development incentives, or other non-dilutive funding strategies Experience evaluating manufacturing economics, capital expenditures, production investments, facility expansion, or other capital-intensive growth initiatives Significant experience with U.S. Government contract accounting and financial management, including CPFF and other government contract structures, billing, revenue recognition, indirect rate management, and financial reporting Strong working knowledge of FAR, DFARS, government contract cost principles, and DCAA accounting and audit requirements Experience managing direct and indirect cost structures, including cost pools, allocation methodologies, indirect rates, cost-charging practices, and allowable and unallowable costs Demonstrated program-finance and proposal-support experience, including budgets, forecasts, funding, EACs, profitability, cost estimating, pricing strategy, financial modeling, and contract economics Experience establishing scalable financial policies, internal controls, governance practices, systems, and processes that support compliance and organizational growth High emotional intelligence, financial acumen, sound judgment, and executive presence, with the ability to analyze complex challenges, build trust, influence decisions, and communicate effectively across financial, technical, and operational teams U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance, as required by program or customer requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in business administration, finance, accounting, economics, or a related business or financial discipline Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), or other relevant professional financial certification Prior CFO, Vice President of Finance, or comparable senior financial leadership experience within aerospace, defense, or government contracting Experience supporting financial operations within a high-growth aerospace, defense, R&D, advanced manufacturing, or complex technology organization Experience with Department of Defense (DoD) research, development, test, and evaluation (RDT&E) programs, including Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) or other federally funded R&D programs Experience partnering with engineering and technical organizations supporting advanced aerospace systems, including hypersonic systems, propulsion systems, or other complex defense technologies Knowledge of Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) and experience with DCAA audits, indirect rate development, incurred cost submissions, or other government contractor accounting and audit activities Experience implementing, integrating, or scaling enterprise resource planning (ERP) platforms, expense management systems, or financial reporting infrastructure Active U.S. Secret-level security clearance
Work Location & Travel:
This position may be based in Huntsville, Alabama; Tullahoma, Tennessee; Presque Isle, Maine; or performed remotely. Remote employees will be expected to travel periodically to VALT's headquarters in Presque Isle, Maine, and to other company or customer locations as business needs require.
