Job Description

Specialized Behavior Technician (SBT)

REPORTS TO

Rowan-Salisbury Schools Exceptional Children (EC) Department Designee

PURPOSE:

Under general supervision, provides specialized behavioral and instructional support to students with disabilities through the implementation of evidence-based practices and individualized supports. The Specialized Behavior Technician (SBT) works as part of the Rowan-Salisbury Schools Exceptional Children Department and collaborates with school teams and district support personnel to promote functional communication, positive behavior, independence, safety, and meaningful participation across school environments. SBTs may provide support within specialized programs, other classrooms or programs, or to individual students based on district, program, and student needs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A.

MAJOR FUNCTION

Direct Student Support

? Provides direct, hands-on support to students across school environments.

? Implements Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), accommodations, and individualized supports with fidelity.

? Uses evidence-based practices to support communication, social, behavioral, adaptive, and academic skill development.

? Promotes functional communication, independence, self-regulation, positive behavior, and student engagement.

? Supports student participation in the least restrictive environment, as appropriate.

? Provides support during instruction, transitions, lunch, recess, specials, transportation, community-based instruction, field trips, and other school activities, as assigned.

B. MAJOR FUNCTION

Behavior Support and Data Collection

? Implements proactive behavioral strategies, reinforcement systems, and other supports identified by the student's educational team.

? Recognizes signs of behavioral escalation and implements approved prevention and de-escalation strategies.

? Responds to behavioral and safety concerns in accordance with student plans and district procedures.

? Collects and documents accurate behavioral data.

? Completes fidelity checks to support consistent implementation of behavioral interventions.

? Shares objective data and observations with appropriate school and district personnel to support team decision-making.

C. MAJOR FUNCTION

Collaboration and Program Support

? Collaborates with teachers, instructional assistants, administrators, related service providers, EC staff, and district support personnel.

? Models and supports the implementation of behavioral and instructional strategies with school staff.

? Supports consistent implementation of student plans and interventions across staff and settings.

? Participates in required meetings, coaching, professional learning, and EC Department trainings.

? Maintains student confidentiality and complies with FERPA and applicable district, state, and federal requirements.

? Supports multiple students, classrooms, programs, or school locations as assigned based on district needs.

? Performs other duties consistent with the Specialized Behavior Technician role as assigned.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

? High school diploma or equivalent required.

? Associate or bachelor's degree in education, psychology, behavior analysis, human services, or a related field preferred

? Experience working with students with disabilities and behavioral support needs preferred.

? Experience implementing behavioral interventions and collecting behavioral data preferred.

? Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) credential or related behavioral training preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

? Ability to implement behavioral interventions with fidelity.

? Ability to collect and document objective student data accurately. ? Ability to follow BIPs, safety plans, accommodations, and other established student supports.

? Ability to work collaboratively and professionally with students, school teams, and district staff.

? Ability to maintain student confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries.

? Ability to respond appropriately to behavioral and safety concerns, including implementing district-approved crisis prevention and intervention procedures when required.

? Must complete required district and EC Department training and maintain certifications required for the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements:

Must be physically able to operate a variety of classroom and office equipment, including computers, communication devices, adaptive equipment, and data-collection tools.

Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle when required for job-related responsibilities.

Must be able to perform the physical activities necessary to provide direct student support and supervision throughout the school day.

The position requires frequent walking, standing, sitting, bending, and movement throughout school and community environments.

Must be able to assist students with mobility, adaptive, self-help, and safety needs when required.

Must be able to implement district-approved safety and crisis-response procedures when necessary.
