Job Description
Position Summary The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) assists the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating the nursing services provided within the facility. The ADON is responsible for ensuring quality resident care, regulatory compliance, staff development, and effective clinical operations while promoting a resident-centered approach to care. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesClinical Leadership Assist the Director of Nursing with the daily management of nursing services. Monitor resident care practices to ensure compliance with facility policies and procedures. Conduct nursing rounds to evaluate resident care and identify concerns. Assist in developing and implementing nursing policies and clinical protocols. Support the management of resident admissions, transfers, and discharges. Participate in care plan meetings and interdisciplinary team discussions. Regulatory Compliance Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing long-term care facilities. Assist in preparing for regulatory surveys and inspections. Monitor documentation and clinical records for accuracy and compliance. Investigate incidents, accidents, complaints, and allegations of abuse or neglect and ensure timely reporting. Staff Management and Development Assist with recruitment, hiring, orientation, and retention of nursing staff. Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to RNs, LPNs, and CNAs. Conduct performance evaluations and disciplinary actions as delegated. Identify educational needs and coordinate staff training programs. Promote teamwork and a positive work environment. Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities. Monitor clinical indicators such as falls, infections, pressure injuries, and rehospitalizations. Develop and implement action plans to improve resident outcomes. Track and analyze quality metrics to ensure continuous improvement. Resident and Family Relations Respond to resident and family concerns promptly and professionally. Promote resident rights, dignity, and quality of life. Maintain effective communication with residents, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members. Administrative Responsibilities Assist with staffing schedules and coverage needs. Monitor nursing supply inventory and equipment usage. Participate in budget planning and resource management as assigned. Serve as acting Director of Nursing in the DON's absence. Qualifications Education Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing. Experience Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, or rehabilitation. Previous supervisory or management experience preferred. Knowledge of federal and state long-term care regulations. Skills and Abilities Strong leadership and organizational skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Ability to assess clinical situations and make sound decisions. Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills. Proficient in electronic medical records (EMR) systems and Microsoft Office applications. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift as required. Ability to assist with resident care during emergencies. Ability to work extended hours and participate in an on-call rotation as needed.
