Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Activity Therapist specializing in Behavioral Health to join our dedicated team. Duties Design and facilitate individualized and group therapy sessions utilizing techniques such as music therapy, dance therapy, art therapy, yoga, equine therapy, and recreational activities to support mental health recovery. Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to determine appropriate activity plans aligned with each client's needs, abilities, and treatment goals. Develop and implement therapeutic recreation programs that enhance cognitive function, emotional regulation, social skills, and physical activity for clients across various settings including psychiatric hospitals, elder care facilities, assisted living communities, and community programs. Utilize de-escalation techniques and crisis management skills to maintain a safe environment during activities and respond effectively to behavioral challenges. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including nurses, social workers, psychologists, and case managers—to coordinate care plans and ensure holistic treatment approaches. Maintain accurate medical documentation, medical records, and data collection in compliance with HIPAA regulations while utilizing medical terminology appropriately. Qualifications Proven experience working with individuals with mental health conditions, developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), dementia (including Alzheimer's care), PTSD care, hospice care, or geriatrics. Strong background in therapeutic recreation program development across diverse populations including pediatrics, seniors, and psychiatric patients. Knowledge of behavioral management techniques, crisis de-escalation strategies, and group therapy facilitation. Familiarity with medical documentation standards such as HIPAA compliance and the use of medical records systems. Experience working in behavioral health hospitals or psychiatric settings is highly desirable. Skills in patient assessment, case management, individual/group counseling sessions, and client communication are essential. Additional qualifications include experience in music therapy (including dancing), art therapy, yoga or equine-assisted therapies; experience working with individuals with autism or disabilities; assisted living experience; hospice or elder care background; familiarity with special education environments; and knowledge of trauma-informed care such as PTSD or Alzheimer's care.
