JOB TITLE
Laboratory Accessioner I SHIFT :
7 PM - 3:30 AM
JOB PURPOSE
The Laboratory Accessioner is responsible for receiving, unpacking, registering patient specimens into LIS as well as flagging specimens missing any COLA requirements to be held from testing. This position requires working weekends and some holidays.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Handle sensitive and confidential patient information in accordance with HIPPA.
  • Follow laboratory accessioning SOP with high regards with accuracy and speed.
  • Receive, unpack and register patient specimens into LIS.
  • Flag specimens missing any COLA requirements to be held from testing and coordinate with Lab Operations staff and client services to resolve issues.
  • Process all necessary paperwork to process and submit specimen Data entry of patient information in an accurate and timely manner
  • Perform audits in order to resolve any outstanding issues.
  • Handle all specimens and lab samples in safe and efficient manner
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICIATION/EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of a high-school diploma or GED
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills and ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy.
  • Proficient is using web browsers and experience with LIS preferred.
  • Understanding of COLA/CAP and CLIA regulatory guidelines preferred
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a sanitized laboratory as well as general office setting. Employees entering and leaving the laboratory must wear appropriate clothing and protective equipment such as masks, goggles, and gloves as applicable.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; lift; bend; sit; push; drive; use hands to finger, grasp, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is subject to repetitive motion of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers when typing as well as when testing samples. The physical demands of the position are considered to be light work. The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform work activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operating of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices. The employee within this position may be subject to vibration, certain hazards due to exposure to chemicals, noise, and atmospheric conditions.
