Job Description
Prepare patients for examination and treatment. Obtain and document vital signs, medical histories, medication reconciliation, and chief complaints. Assist physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners during examinations and office procedures. Perform wound care, dressing changes, suture and staple removal as directed. Apply, remove, and modify casts, splints, braces, and orthopedic immobilization devices. Fit and educate patients on the use of orthopedic braces, boots, slings, walkers, crutches, and other durable medical equipment. Provide patient education regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, postoperative care, cast care, wound care, and activity restrictions. Prepare and maintain sterile fields for office procedures. Assist providers during sterile procedures including joint injections, aspirations, fracture reductions, biopsies, and minor surgical procedures. Coordinate and complete preoperative assessments and education. Review laboratory results, imaging, and required preoperative documentation. Answer and triage patient phone calls using clinical judgment and established protocols. Assess patient concerns and communicate appropriately with providers. Accurately document patient assessments, procedures, treatments, and communications within the electronic medical record (EMR). Maintain complete, timely, and compliant medical records. Work collaboratively with multiple orthopedic surgeons, advanced practice providers, radiology staff, therapists, surgery schedulers, and ancillary departments. Promote efficient patient flow while maintaining excellent patient care and customer service. Serve as a clinical resource for patients and team members. Assist providers with documentation and order entry as appropriate. Reinforce postoperative instructions and follow-up care. Monitor recovery progress through office visits and telephone follow-up. Ensure proper sterilization and maintenance of instruments and equipment. Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures for safety and comfort. A high school diploma or equivalency is required. Specialized vocational or technical training for LPN is required. Current KY LPN licensure is required. Current BLS training is required. Provides direct patient care, administers treatments, and medications. Works under the direction of an RN or MD to ensure the patient's health care needs are met in accordance with established policy.
