Job Description

Medical Assistant II A Medical Assistant II (MA) in Dermatology plays a crucial role in supporting dermatologists and ensuring smooth clinic operations. They are responsible for seeing their own patients, managing their schedules, and performing both clinical and administrative duties to enhance patient care. This includes assisting in medical procedures, maintaining efficient office workflows, and ensuring all patient needs are met. The MA II position is key to ensuring a seamless patient experience from check-in to discharge, providing high-quality care throughout the process.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Patient Care Responsibilities Conducting wound care and dressing changes with approval from Provider Performing suture and staple removals Administering CoolSculpting treatments Performing Blue Light (photodynamic therapy) treatments Providing additional dermatologic treatments and services as permitted under the MA scope of practice Ensuring efficient scheduling to optimize patient flow and clinic operations Documenting treatments and patient interactions accurately in electronic medical records (EMR) Communicating effectively with patients regarding pre
  • and post-procedure care instructions Clinical Support Prepare patients for exams by taking medical histories, vital signs, and documenting skin concerns.
Assist dermatologists during medical and cosmetic procedures (e.g., biopsies, cryotherapy, laser treatments, Botox, fillers, chemical peels). Perform nursing procedures and assist physicians/physician assistants in exam rooms. Educate patients on wound care, medication usage, post-procedure instructions, and skincare treatments. Administrative & Documentation Duties Triage and process patient messages, responding to inquiries from patients, front office staff, physicians, and pharmacies. Maintain accurate patient records, ensuring lab results, reports, and required documents are available before appointments. Update charts, complete documentation, merge codes, and process prescriptions per provider instructions. Manage photo documentation, sorting and updating medical and cosmetic patient images. Clinic Operations & Compliance Stock and sterilize exam rooms and medical instruments, ensuring a clean and organized workspace. Perform daily equipment and supply checks, including refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, and sterilization logs. Maintain cleanliness of the Nurses Station and clinical areas. Adhere to HIPAA regulations and safeguard patient information. Patient Engagement & Education Educate patients on products, skincare treatments, and post-care instructions, promoting sales where applicable. Management Skills & Abilities:
Strong knowledge of dermatological conditions, treatments, and medical terminology. Proficiency in EHR systems Excellent patient communication and customer service skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and assist with delicate procedures.
Qualifications:
Minimum High school diploma or equivalent. Medical Assistant Certification strongly preferred. Minimum of one (1) year of Medical Assistant experience, preferably in Dermatology or a closely related specialty; with a willingness and genuine interest to learn. Ability to travel between clinic locations as needed and applicable to provider coverage. Bilingual skills are a plus; not required. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively prioritize work and adapt quickly to changing circumstances in a fast-paced environment. Strong team player with the ability to collaborate and work cohesively with others. Ability to maintain professionalism and composure under pressure. Highly adaptable and receptive to change. Strong multitasking skills with the ability to manage competing priorities. Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and make appropriate decisions with minimal supervision.
