SUMMARY :
Provides clerical/administrative support in medical records, clinics, or other departments of a medical treatment facility.
MANDATORY KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
A fully qualified typist (computer keyboard) with a minimum of 50 WPM is required. Clearly speak and understand the English language. Knowledge on use of standard office equipment, such as personal computers, copiers, fax machines, and telephone systems to perform a substantial range of medical record maintenance support. Possess general medical ethics, telephone etiquette, and excellent communication and customer service skills.
BASIC LIFE SUPPORT
(BLS)
OR CPR/AED CERTIFICATION
Required and must stay current. Certification must be through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
EDUCATION
High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalency. Basic medical terminology is required.
CERTIFICATION
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
EXPERIENCE
: At least one-year experience to include handling patient records in a healthcare setting, managing electronic health records (EHR) or medical office software, and familiarity with medical terminology and HIPAA regulations. At least 6 months of experience in medical office scheduling.
CORE JOB DUTIES
Initiates and maintains medical records in accordance with prescribed directives. Files military forms documenting patient care into the official medical record. Searches for missing paperwork or records; requests information pertaining to patient treatment to place in the medical record. Prepares reports regarding record statistics as necessary. Participates in records review as part of the facility's quality assurance program and in accordance with accreditation standards. Retires medical records in accordance with regulatory guidelines. Conducts daily pull, delivery and retrieval of patient records. Greets patients/visitors at a front desk, information center or office setting. Answers main office phone line. Directs telephone calls to appropriate section for assistance. Takes messages as required.
