Nursing Supervisor Job Description Overview The Nursing Supervisor plays a crucial role in overseeing the nursing staff and ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care within a healthcare facility. Duties Supervise nursing staff, providing guidance and support to ensure adherence to best practices in patient care. Conduct regular assessments of patient care plans, ensuring they align with established protocols and standards. Oversee discharge planning processes to facilitate smooth transitions for patients moving from hospital to home or other care settings. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate comprehensive care for patients, including those in ICU and PICU settings. Perform physical examinations as needed and ensure accurate documentation of patient health records using systems such as Athenahealth. Maintain knowledge of anatomy and ICD-9 coding for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. Provide training and mentorship to nursing staff, fostering professional development and enhancing team performance. Address any issues or concerns regarding patient care promptly while maintaining a positive work environment. Skills Experience in nursing home settings or hospital medicine is highly desirable. Strong knowledge of physical examinations, discharge planning, and community home care practices. Familiarity with ICU and PICU environments is beneficial for effective patient management. Proficient understanding of anatomy and ICD-9 coding systems for accurate documentation. Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members. Ability to lead a team, manage conflicts, and promote a collaborative work culture. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining attention to detail.
