Phlebotomist II Job Description The Phlebotomist II plays a key role in supporting laboratory operations by performing high-quality blood draws and specimen collections, troubleshooting issues, participating in training, and recommending workflow improvements. This role focuses on accurate specimen handling, patient-centered communication, and adherence to established protocols and safety regulations in a fast-paced clinical environment. Responsibilities

+ Perform blood draws and venipuncture procedures using straight needles and butterfly needles with a high level of accuracy and care.

+ Collect and store specimens, including blood, urine, and fecal samples, in accordance with established procedures and protocols.

+ Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and specimen collection processes to patients to ensure understanding and comfort.

+ Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify that all information is complete and correct.

+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by specific test orders to maintain specimen integrity.

+ Check all test requisitions or computer-generated labels against the script or order to ensure 100% accuracy.

+ Package specimens for transport using appropriate containers and materials, following protocol to preserve specimen quality.

+ Store specimen samples at the required temperatures and place them in the appropriate collection containers or tubes, following all outlined procedures. Essential Skills

+ Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy, including venipuncture and blood draws in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

+ Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a clinical, laboratory, or hospital environment.

+ Ability to perform pediatric blood draws and specimen collection with care and precision.

+ Experience with specimen collection, labeling, centrifuging, splitting, freezing, and processing in a laboratory setting. Work Environment This position is based out of either Itasca or Tinley Park, depending on the employee's home location, with regular floating to multiple sites including Chicago, Tinley Park, Blue Island, Des Plaines, Evanston, Arlington Heights, Bloomingdale, Chicago Heights, and West Chicago. Work is performed in clinical and laboratory environments that require careful adherence to safety and specimen handling protocols.
