Job Description

Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) — Assisted Living & Memory Care Flexible full-time position | 35-40 hours per week | $32-$35/hour | Bloomington-Normal, Illinois Come do the work you actually trained for. I'm Kris, a practicing physical therapist and the owner of Savoy Therapy. I understand the realities of patient care—the satisfaction of helping someone move better, the pressure of documentation, and the importance of having a supportive team and a life outside of work. I founded Savoy Therapy in 2011 with a straightforward purpose: put patient care first, continue learning, and find better ways to help older adults remain active, safe, and independent. Today, Savoy Therapy provides rehabilitation services to older adults where they live across Central Illinois. We're looking for a Physical Therapist Assistant to join our established Bloomington-Normal team and provide meaningful, one-on-one care in assisted living and memory care communities. What you'll do You'll treat residents in senior living communities that partner with Savoy Therapy, carrying out individualized plans of care under the direction of a physical therapist. You won't simply be handed a protocol and left to follow it. You'll collaborate with the supervising PT, share what is and isn't working, and help determine how we can achieve the best possible outcome for each patient. Memory care will be a meaningful part of your caseload. If you enjoy adapting your approach for a resident with dementia—meeting them where they are that day and finding the cue, activity, or connection that works—you may be an excellent fit. Although you'll often treat independently within a community, you won't be on your own. You'll have responsive access to your supervising PT and a close clinical team that is available to answer questions, brainstorm solutions, and support your growth. Your responsibilities Carry out the physical therapist's plan of care while appropriately challenging each patient to achieve the best possible outcome Provide individualized treatment focused on mobility, strength, balance, function, fall prevention, and symptom reduction Collect clinical data, measure performance, and document patient progress accurately and on time Recognize changes in patient status and communicate promptly with the supervising PT Share treatment observations and recommend appropriate modifications to the plan of care Coordinate treatment schedules with residents, families, community staff, and other members of the therapy team Communicate professionally with families, powers of attorney, nurses, community staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals Adapt treatment for residents with dementia, cognitive impairment, medical complexity, or changing functional abilities Apply current clinical evidence to help prevent falls, functional decline, and deconditioning Complete documentation that clearly supports the need for skilled therapy services Maintain professional, ethical, and legal standards while continuing to develop your clinical knowledge What we're looking for Current Illinois Physical Therapist Assistant license or eligibility for Illinois licensure Associate degree from a CAPTE-accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program Genuine interest in helping older adults maintain their mobility and independence Comfort working with residents who have dementia or cognitive impairment Ability to adapt treatment based on a resident's presentation and needs that day Confidence working independently within a senior living community Strong communication skills with residents, families, facility staff, and the therapy team Timely and accurate documentation Dependability, organization, and good follow-through A collaborative mindset—you ask questions, share observations, and work as part of a team Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license Current CPR certification or willingness to obtain it before beginning employment Experienced PTAs and motivated new graduates with strong communication skills are encouraged to apply. Compensation and benefits $32-$35 per hour, based on experience Flexible full-time schedule of approximately 35-40 hours per week Paid drive time between communities Mileage reimbursement at $0.45 per mile Medical, dental, and vision insurance Paid time off 401(k) with company match Continuing-education support Clinical mentorship and professional-development opportunities Opportunities to grow into mentorship and leadership roles Why Savoy Therapy? A therapist-owned practice where patient care genuinely comes first Meaningful one-on-one work with older adults where they live A flexible full-time schedule that supports life outside of work An established presence in Bloomington-Normal senior living communities A small, close team that answers when you call Accessible clinical support from experienced therapists The opportunity to build lasting relationships with residents, families, and community staff A clinical ladder into mentorship and leadership as you grow Ready to talk? Apply here, and I'll personally review your application. If it appears that we may be a good match, we'll start with a conversation—not an interrogation—about your experience, what you want from the next stage of your career, and whether Savoy Therapy is the right fit for you. — Kris Thope, PT, Cert.
