Job Description

Description This contract, on-site position offers a unique opportunity to provide high-quality gastrointestinal care to patients while enjoying the flexibility and professional fulfillment of a locum tenens role within a supportive and well-established clinical environment. As a Locum Gastroenterology Physician, you will play a critical role in diagnosing and managing a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions, performing essential procedures, and collaborating with our multidisciplinary medical team. This position is ideal for an Associate-level physician who thrives in a hands-on clinical setting and is committed to delivering patient-centered care in line with the highest standards of medical practice. Responsibilities Provide comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for patients with gastrointestinal conditions and disorders. Perform endoscopic procedures including upper endoscopy and colonoscopy with accuracy and adherence to safety protocols. Develop and implement individualized patient care plans based on clinical findings and evidence-based guidelines. Collaborate with primary care physicians, surgeons, and other specialists to ensure coordinated and effective patient care. Document patient encounters, procedures, and treatment plans thoroughly and in a timely manner in electronic medical records (EMR). Educate patients and their families on diagnoses, treatment options, preventive care, and lifestyle modifications. Participate in on-site clinical rounds, case discussions, and multidisciplinary team meetings to enhance patient outcomes. Maintain compliance with all applicable medical regulations, hospital policies, and professional standards of practice. Requirements Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school. Board certification or active board eligibility in Gastroenterology. Valid and unrestricted medical license to practice in the state of Virginia. Completion of an accredited residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Gastroenterology. Proven experience in diagnosing and treating a broad spectrum of gastrointestinal conditions. Proficiency in performing endoscopic procedures, including polypectomy, biopsy, and hemorrhoid banding. Strong clinical judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills in acute and routine care settings. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-focused approach to care. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Current BLS and ACLS certification. Willingness to adhere to a contract-based, on-site schedule as required by the medical practice.
Level III Trauma Schedule:
24-hour call, 7 on/7 off
Setting:
Inpatient, some clinic
Patient Volume:
4-8 consults and some procedures EUS and ERCP required
EMR:
Epic Must be board-certified Paid travel & expenses
