Under the general supervision of the Program Director or designated qualified faculty, the Clinical Instructor assists with the delivery of clinical instruction for credit-bearing dental hygiene courses. Responsibilities include preparing and implementing clinical learning activities aligned with the program curriculum, course syllabi, goals, and learning outcomes, and evaluating student performance in the clinical setting to determine progress toward established competencies. The Clinical Instructor supports the operation of the dental hygiene clinic by assisting with the preparation and maintenance of clinical supplies, equipment, and materials necessary for instruction. The position contributes to maintaining compliance with program accreditation standards, institutional policies, and applicable safety and infection control protocols within the clinical learning environment. Additional responsibilities include maintaining accurate student clinical records, assisting with required program documentation and reports, and participating in professional development activities such as workshops, seminars, conferences, and institutional training to maintain current knowledge of dental hygiene practice and clinical education methods. The Clinical Instructor works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to support student learning and clinical competency development. The position may assist with student recruitment, retention, and career placement initiatives. Clinical instruction occurs in a laboratory/clinical environment designed to simulate contemporary dental hygiene practice, requiring knowledge of current trends, technologies, and procedures in the profession. The position requires strong computer and communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with a diverse student population. Additional responsibilities may include participation in program committees, special projects, and instructional activities that may occur during day, evening, or distance-supported clinical learning sessions, as assigned. Individuals teaching in the clinical setting must meet the credentialing requirements established by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and institutional policy. Clinical instructors may hold an associate degree in dental hygiene with appropriate licensure and relevant clinical experience, consistent with CODA standards for clinical instruction.
Minimum Qualifications:
(candidates must meet all minimum qualifications to be considered) Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene 2-3 years of full-time clinical dental hygiene experience
Current Registered Georgia State Licensed Dental Hygienist CPR Certified Preferred Qualifications:
Directly related teaching experience at the postsecondary level Bachelor's degree or higher in Dental Hygiene or a related field Equivalent of 5 or more years' full-time clinical experience in dental hygiene
