Job Description

Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago, IL is seeking a Certified Respiratory Therapist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this role, you will assess, treat, and care for patients with breathing disorders, perform diagnostic tests, and administer prescribed respiratory therapies. You will collaborate closely with physicians and nurses, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care. Responsibilities Perform comprehensive respiratory assessments and implement individualized respiratory care plans for assigned patients Administer aerosolized medications, oxygen therapy, and chest physiotherapy according to provider orders and protocols Initiate, manage, troubleshoot, and wean patients from mechanical ventilation and non-invasive ventilation systems Respond to respiratory emergencies, including rapid responses and code situations, providing advanced airway and ventilatory support within scope of practice Obtain and analyze arterial blood gases, interpret results, and communicate findings to the care team Perform and interpret basic respiratory diagnostic tests such as pulse oximetry and bedside pulmonary function screening Accurately document all assessments, interventions, patient responses, and equipment settings in the electronic medical record Educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, therapies, inhaler and device use, and home-care instructions to support safe discharge Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in developing and updating interdisciplinary care plans Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot respiratory therapy equipment, ensuring safe and effective operation Follow infection control, safety, and regulatory standards in all aspects of respiratory care Participate in quality improvement, protocol development, and education initiatives within the Respiratory Care department and the broader organization Required Skills Mechanical ventilation management Non-invasive ventilation (Bi

) Arterial blood gas sampling and interpretation Oxygen therapy administration Aerosol medication delivery (MDI, nebulizer) Chest physiotherapy and airway clearance techniques Airway management and suctioning Respiratory assessment and monitoring Pulse oximetry and basic pulmonary function screening Electronic medical record documentation (e.g., Epic or similar systems) Equipment troubleshooting and maintenance for ventilators and respiratory devices Patient and family education on respiratory care Knowledge of respiratory pathophysiology (COPD, asthma, pneumonia, ARDS, etc.) Infection control and safety practices in acute care Interdisciplinary teamwork and communication in a hospital setting
