A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

) Arterial blood gas sampling and interpretation Oxygen therapy administration Aerosol medication delivery (MDI, nebulizer) Chest physiotherapy and airway clearance techniques Airway management and suctioning Respiratory assessment and monitoring Pulse oximetry and basic pulmonary function screening Electronic medical record documentation (e.g., Epic or similar systems) Equipment troubleshooting and maintenance for ventilators and respiratory devices Patient and family education on respiratory care Knowledge of respiratory pathophysiology (COPD, asthma, pneumonia, ARDS, etc.) Infection control and safety practices in acute care Interdisciplinary teamwork and communication in a hospital settingBenefits
