Housekeeping Supervisor The award-winning South Pier Inn, named Minnesota's Small Hotel of the Year and consistently ranked among Minnesota's top-rated hotels on TripAdvisor, is accepting applications for a Housekeeping Supervisor. South Pier Inn is a family-owned, 29-room boutique hotel located at the foot of Duluth's Aerial Lift Bridge on Park Point. The property features 20 waterfront suites overlooking the Duluth Ship Canal and harbor, along with more than 400 feet of private shoreline. Serving primarily leisure travelers, we have earned a loyal following through our commitment to exceptional service, outstanding cleanliness and consistently high-quality accommodations. Position Summary The Housekeeping Supervisor plays a central role in ensuring that all guestrooms and public areas meet South Pier Inn's high standards for cleanliness, quality and comfort. This is a hands-on supervisory position that combines daily housekeeping work with room inspection, team leadership, training, documentation and communication with Guest Services and senior management. Because hotel operations are dynamic, responsibilities may evolve based on occupancy, staffing and the needs of the property. Primary Responsibilities Open the housekeeping department at the beginning of the day and secure housekeeping facilities at the conclusion of daily operations. Prepare and update daily room assignments and special-project assignments for scheduled housekeeping staff. Ensure housekeepers have the supplies, equipment and fully functioning tools needed to complete their work efficiently. Clean checkout and stayover guestrooms when needed to support the department. Inspect completed checkout rooms thoroughly for cleanliness, presentation, maintenance concerns and product consistency. Ensure stayover guestrooms are properly serviced and recheck vacant guestrooms as necessary. Monitor the work of housekeepers who have earned self-inspection privileges to ensure continued quality and consistency. Verify that special guest requests, amenities and packages have been completed and properly placed. Communicate room-status updates, assignment changes, guest requests and other relevant information to Guest Services staff. Update the property management system throughout the day to accurately reflect each room's status as READY, CLEAN or DIRTY. Document rooms placed out of order and provide appropriate supporting information. Complete and maintain housekeeping records, including room assignments, inspection checklists, room-completion records and special-project documentation. Identify maintenance, safety and health concerns and promptly report them to senior management. Assign or perform cleaning of hotel common areas, including the lobby restroom, foyer entrances and common-area glass. Ensure housekeeping, public-area and back-of-house trash and recycling are emptied throughout the day. Identify appropriate cleaning and maintenance projects for housekeepers to complete during slower periods or between room assignments. Maintain the security and inventory of housekeeping keys. Train and retrain housekeeping employees in proper cleaning, disinfecting and sanitizing procedures. Assist senior management with the implementation of new systems, standards and operating procedures. Participate in employee performance evaluations, address work deficiencies and recognize exceptional performance. Review guest comment cards and online reviews to identify opportunities for improvement. Work with senior management to anticipate staffing requirements and minimize periods of understaffing. Assist senior management with the hiring, discipline and, when necessary, termination of housekeeping employees. Schedule Requirements Candidates must have a flexible schedule and be available to work weekends. Housekeeping Supervisor shifts generally begin at 8:30 a.m., with ending times varying according to occupancy, staffing and the day's workload. The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that all arriving guestrooms are inspected and ready for occupancy before the hotel's 4:00 p.m. check-in time. During especially busy periods, working beyond 4:00 p.m. or more than five days in a week may occasionally be required. Qualifications Previous hospitality or housekeeping experience is required. Previous supervisory experience is preferred. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to exceptional cleanliness are essential. Candidates must be dependable, organized and comfortable providing direction and constructive feedback. Candidates must be able to perform the physical duties associated with guestroom and public-area cleaning. Hourly compensation is commensurate with experience.
