TBA ABOUT THE POSITION
The Active Adult/Senior Services Supervisor is a dynamic leader responsible for planning, coordinating, managing, and supervising comprehensive recreation programs and services that enhance the health, wellness, and quality of life for Daly City residents ages 50 and older. This position oversees diverse recreation, social, educational, wellness, nutrition, trips, and special event programming across multiple community and senior centers while fostering meaningful opportunities for social connection and reducing loneliness and social isolation. The Active Adult/Senior Services Supervisor serves as an active member of the City's Age-Friendly Task Force, builds collaborative partnerships with community organizations and regional agencies, and represents the Department of Recreation Services in advancing age-friendly initiatives. In addition, the position provides leadership in budget development, fiscal oversight, grant administration, data analysis, and program evaluation to ensure services are innovative, responsive, sustainable, and aligned with the evolving needs of Daly City's diverse older adult community.
DEFINITION
Under general supervision, plan, organize, implement, direct, schedule, coordinate, publicize, supervise and evaluate a comprehensive range of recreation and human services programs for Daly City's active adult and senior population.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Directly supervises the full-time Food Services Coordinator and Senior Services Specialists, including assigning work, reviewing performance and ensuring effective delivery of senior nutrition, programming and support services. Supervises part-time staff and volunteers; and performs related duties as required. Plan, develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate recreation, wellness, nutrition and human services programs for active adults and seniors. Relate to the active adult and senior community and develop programs responsive to the needs of Daly City's culturally diverse population. Recruit, interview, train, schedule, supervise and motivate (monitor) part-time staff, independent contractors and volunteers. Identify opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures, including targeted outreach and broad marketing strategies. Identify resources needed to support program sustainability, growth and expansion. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing with staff, participants, community partners and stakeholders. Coordinate programs and services with other City departments, service agencies and community organizations. Assist with preparation, administration and monitoring of assigned program budgets. Attend and participate in professional development activities and meetings; track trends and innovations in recreation, leisure and active adult and senior programming. Prepare reports, correspondence and program documentation. Perform other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of recreation programming, gerontology and community or human resources. Basic principles of planning, organizing, directing and controlling a variety of senior-serving programs, activities, nutrition services and special events. Principles of supervision, training and evaluation of staff and volunteers. Volunteer recruitment, engagement and retention strategies. Basic budgeting and program administration principles. Computer applications relevant to the position.
Ability to:
Interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis. Plan, organize and direct effective recreation and senior services programs. Supervise professional, para-professional and support staff, including evaluating performance and ensuring accountability. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with active adults, seniors, staff, volunteers, service agencies, advisory councils and community partners. Communicate clearly, concisely and effectively in both written and verbal formats. Exercise sound independent judgement and manage multiple priorities. Prepare and oversee program budgets and reports. Provide positive customer service, work collaboratively as a team member.
Experience:
Three (3) years of full-time experience in municipal or commercial recreation and nutrition programs. One year of lead supervisory experience desirable.
Education:
Completion of sixty (60) semester units from college or university with specialization in recreation, physical education, gerontology or related field. Bachelor's Degree desirable. Two (2) additional years of full-time recreation experience may be substituted for one (1) year or thirty (30) units of Education.

II RETIREMENT

The City pays 0% of employee contribution. In lieu, the City provides 414h, a one-time, irrevocable option for employee to elect to have his or her mandated PERS member contribution picked up by the City. Electing this option authorizes the City to designate the mandatory contribution on a tax-deferred basis. Effective 7/1/2008, a retiring employee shall place 100% of eligible Sick Leave Cash Out into the City sponsored Retiree Health Savings Account. Sick leave cash out is eliminated for all employees hired after July 1, 2020. III. Retiree Health Benefits The retiree health benefit for all employees hired on or after November 14, 2022 shall be limited to the PEMHCA minimum. For employees hired on or after November 14, 2022, the City shall contribute $50 per month to the current Mission Square retiree health savings account.

SICK LEAVE

Pay out is 1/2 of employee's total accrued sick leave hours (up to 1600 hours) and applies ONLY at retirement, death, or abolishment of position. (for employees hired before July 1, 2020)
VI. VACATION

VII. UNIFORM
  • Per Resolution 22-219 effective January 1, 2023, for employees who are required to wear a uniform, the City will report to CalPERS a $35.
00 uniform allowance per pay period as compensation subject to retirement contributions for employees in classic retirement tiers. Payroll has the list of Misc/Unrep employees required to wear uniforms.
VIII. MILEAGE
  • Effective January 1, 2026 reimbursement rate is 72.
