Protect Our Compliance. Freedom Transportation Systems LLC is a growing motor carrier based in Olathe, Kansas. We are seeking an experienced Driver Recruiter & DOT Compliance Specialist to lead driver recruiting while ensuring our driver qualification and onboarding processes meet company, insurance, and DOT requirements. This is a hands-on role for someone who understands that successful driver recruiting does not end when an application is received. You will manage candidates from initial contact through qualification, hiring, and orientation while maintaining accurate and compliant driver records. The ideal candidate understands the realities of transportation recruiting: qualified drivers move quickly, insurance requirements matter, and complete, accurate documentation is essential. Key Responsibilities
  • Source and recruit qualified CDL-A, CDL-B, and non-CDL drivers through job boards, referrals, CDL schools, direct outreach, and other recruiting channels.
  • Manage candidates throughout the recruiting process, from initial contact and application review through qualification, offer, onboarding, and orientation.
  • Review applicants against company hiring standards and insurance carrier requirements before advancing candidates through the hiring process.
  • Obtain and review Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs), Pre-Employment Screening Program (PSP) reports, CDLIS information, and applicable FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse queries.
  • Coordinate required background screening and pre-employment qualification activities.
  • Request, document, and track required previous-employer safety performance information and drug and alcohol testing history.
  • Coordinate pre-employment drug testing and DOT physical requirements and verify medical examiner information as required.
  • Build, maintain, and audit Driver Qualification (DQ) files in accordance with applicable requirements under 49 CFR Part 391.
  • Monitor driver documentation and expiration dates to help maintain ongoing compliance.
  • Conduct and coordinate new-driver orientation and onboarding, including required company policies, acknowledgments, safety documentation, and employment paperwork.
  • Maintain accurate applicant and recruiting activity within Tenstreet.
  • Create, manage, and optimize Indeed and other driver recruiting campaigns, including sponsored-job budgets.
  • Maintain timely communication with applicants and provide a professional candidate experience throughout the hiring process.
  • Track and report recruiting and operational metrics, including applicant volume, qualified candidates, cost per hire, driver placements, open seats, and retention.
  • Partner with Operations and leadership to understand current and anticipated driver staffing needs.
  • Support additional DOT compliance and driver-recordkeeping activities as needed. Required Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience recruiting CDL drivers for a motor carrier, or DOT safety/compliance experience that includes driver recruiting responsibilities.
  • Working knowledge of applicable
FMCSA/DOT
regulations.
  • Hands-on experience with Tenstreet or a comparable transportation-focused applicant tracking system; Tenstreet experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience reviewing MVRs and other driver qualification information against company and insurance carrier standards.
  • Experience using the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse and Pre-Employment Screening Program (PSP).
  • Experience coordinating background checks, MVR screening, drug testing, and other pre-employment driver qualification requirements.
  • Experience creating and managing Indeed job postings and sponsored recruiting campaigns.
  • Strong understanding of Driver Qualification file requirements and transportation-industry recordkeeping.
  • Strong telephone, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple candidates, deadlines, and compliance requirements simultaneously.
  • High level of accuracy, organization, follow-through, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to make sound qualification decisions and consistently apply company and insurance carrier hiring standards. Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with additional FMCSA systems and resources, including the FMCSA Portal, SAFER, and CSA/SMS data.
  • Certified Director of Safety (CDS), NATMI certification, TCA recruiting credential, or other relevant transportation-industry certification.
  • Experience recruiting both company drivers and owner-operators/independent contractors.
  • Experience supporting multiple driver classifications, including CDL-A, CDL-B, and non-CDL operations.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills. What We Offer
  • $52,000-$70,000 annual salary , based on experience.
  • Straight salary compensation — no commission-based recruiting structure.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k).
  • Company-paid life insurance.
  • Paid vacation.
  • Direct access to company ownership and leadership.
  • The opportunity to have a meaningful impact on recruiting, driver qualification, and compliance processes.
  • A growing transportation organization where ideas can be evaluated and implemented quickly.
  • A role with ownership and accountability beyond a traditional recruiting phone queue.
Why Freedom Transportation Systems? At Freedom Transportation Systems, you will not simply pass candidates from recruiting to another department. You will have visibility and ownership throughout the driver hiring process and play an important role in helping the company maintain a qualified, compliant, and dependable driver workforce. We are looking for someone who understands both sides of the equation: getting qualified drivers into trucks quickly and making sure the documentation behind every driver is accurate, complete, and audit-ready.
