Job Overview •Previous dog daycare experience is required. Pup City is a fast-growing dog daycare and boarding facility located in Ypsilanti, Michigan. We're looking for dependable, experienced dog daycare professionals who enjoy working with dogs, supporting coworkers, and helping daily operations run smoothly. Working at a dog daycare is much more than playing with dogs all day. The environment can be loud, physically demanding, messy, and unpredictable at times. Shift Leads play an important role in maintaining consistency throughout the facility while supporting customers, employees, dogs, and Management. This is a hands-on position. Shift Leads actively participate in the day-to-day operation while helping answer employee questions, assist customers, maintain operational consistency, and ensure dogs receive safe, high-quality care. Previous dog daycare experience is required for this position. Applicants should already have a solid understanding of dog body language, group play management, dog handling, and daycare operations. What Makes Pup City Different? Many dog daycare facilities assign employees to a single responsibility for most of their shift. At Pup City, Shift Leads remain actively involved throughout the facility. In addition to many of the same responsibilities as our Rotational Team Members, Shift Leads help answer employee questions, assist customers, maintain consistency between shifts, and support the daily operation of the business. We believe Shift Leads should lead by example by remaining approachable, dependable, and willing to help wherever they're needed. We also work hard to maintain a positive, team-oriented culture. Employee feedback and recommendations are welcomed and genuinely considered. We don't operate with a "management versus staff" mindset. Communication is encouraged, transparency is valued, and everyone is expected to contribute to the success of the team. We're proud of the culture we've built and are looking for experienced professionals who help strengthen it every day. Duties Help oversee the daily operation of the daycare and boarding facility. Support Rotational Team Members throughout the shift and help answer operational questions. Help maintain consistency between shifts by communicating important operational information. Assist with customer check-ins, check-outs, phone calls, emails, reservations, and general customer service. Build strong relationships with customers and help create a welcoming environment. Learn and actively attempt to remember customer names, dog names, routines, medications, feeding instructions, and other important operational details. Provide customers with meaningful updates regarding their dog's behavior, socialization, energy level, and overall experience. Operate point-of-sale systems, scheduling software, and customer management software. Verify vaccine records, customer accounts, reservations, feeding instructions, and medications. Supervise and safely manage groups of dogs when needed. Monitor dog behavior and make appropriate decisions regarding dog introductions, removals, time-outs, and safety concerns. Assist with temperament tests and onboarding processes. Help train and support new employees. Assist with meal preparation, feeding routines, and medication administration. Verify feeding and medication accuracy. Monitor facility cleanliness and operational standards throughout the day. Clean and sanitize kennels, play yards, drains, walls, windows, gates, play equipment, storage areas, and common areas. Clean up dog waste, accidents, spills, vomit, and other messes promptly. Operate washers and dryers and assist with laundry duties. Help organize inventory, storage areas, and supplies. Assist with facility improvement projects, decorating, signage installation, organization projects, and other miscellaneous operational tasks. Report customer concerns, employee concerns, maintenance issues, injuries, incidents, damaged equipment, and unusual dog behavior to Management. Help maintain a positive, professional, accountable, and team-oriented work environment. Follow all company policies, sanitation standards, operational procedures, and safety expectations. Remain flexible and willing to assist with miscellaneous operational tasks and other duties as assigned. Qualifications & Experience •Previous dog daycare experience is required. Applicants should already have experience supervising group play, reading dog body language, safely managing dog interactions, maintaining a clean facility, and working in a fast-paced daycare environment.
Ideal candidates are:
Comfortable working around dogs of all sizes, breeds, energy levels, and temperaments. Confident reading dog body language and recognizing appropriate versus inappropriate play. Team-oriented and willing to support coworkers throughout the day. Organized with strong attention to detail. Comfortable helping train and support newer employees.
