3 Position Overview We are seeking three experienced, licensed embalmers to join our funeral home in Louisville, Kentucky. These positions are designed specifically for skilled funeral service professionals who take pride in embalming, restorative care, and the dignified preparation of the deceased. Our goal is to maintain a well-staffed preparation room that allows cases to be handled efficiently and professionally without placing an unreasonable workload on any individual embalmer. Each position offers a guaranteed base salary of $75,000 per year , a flexible schedule , and opportunities to earn additional compensation through after-hours and weekend embalming, optional removals, on-call coverage, and other bonus opportunities. Candidates must have a minimum of three years of professional embalming experience and be capable of independently handling routine and more technically challenging cases. Primary Responsibilities Perform embalming and preparation of decedents according to professional standards and applicable laws and regulations. Evaluate each case and select appropriate embalming techniques, chemicals, injection and drainage methods, and supplemental treatments. Perform routine and advanced restorative procedures when necessary. Perform feature setting, bathing, dressing, cosmetology, hairstyling, casketing, and final preparation. Prepare remains for private identification, visitation, funeral services, transportation, burial, cremation, or other disposition. Maintain a high standard of preservation, sanitation, presentation, and dignity. Communicate with funeral directors regarding clothing, cosmetics, viewing requests, service schedules, and special family instructions. Maintain accurate embalming and preparation records. Properly identify and safeguard decedents throughout the preparation process. Maintain preparation-room equipment, instruments, chemicals, supplies, and personal protective equipment. Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and professional preparation-room environment. Follow OSHA requirements, bloodborne pathogen standards, infection-control procedures, chemical-safety requirements, and funeral-home policies. Assist fellow embalmers when complex cases or workload require additional support. Participate in continuing education and professional development as appropriate. Required Qualifications Current Kentucky Embalmer License in good standing, or eligibility to obtain Kentucky licensure through reciprocity. Minimum of three years of professional embalming experience. Ability to independently embalm and prepare cases without continuous supervision. Strong working knowledge of embalming chemistry, vascular and cavity treatment, sanitation, and preservation. Competency in restorative art, feature setting, cosmetology, dressing, and casketing. Knowledge of OSHA requirements, bloodborne pathogens, infection control, PPE, and preparation-room safety. Strong attention to detail and professional judgment. Ability to manage multiple cases and prioritize work according to service schedules. Ability to communicate effectively with funeral directors and other members of the funeral-home staff. Dependability, discretion, and respect for the deceased and their families. Ability to perform the physical duties associated with embalming and preparation-room work. Preferred Qualifications Five or more years of professional embalming experience. Experience handling a wide variety of routine and difficult embalming cases. Advanced restorative-art experience. Experience in a moderate- to high-volume funeral home or trade-embalming environment. Experience with autopsy, trauma, organ/tissue donation, decomposition, edema, emaciation, and other technically challenging cases. Experience mentoring apprentices or less-experienced embalmers. Funeral Director licensure is welcomed but not required for candidates who otherwise meet the requirements of the position.
Compensation Guaranteed Base Salary:
$75,000 per year The $75,000 salary represents the employee's base compensation and is not dependent upon earning removal fees, after-hours embalming compensation, or on-call bonuses. After-Hours & Weekend Embalming Additional compensation will be paid for qualifying embalming cases performed outside established regular working hours, including designated evenings, weekends, and holidays. Optional Removal Compensation Employees may elect to perform removal and transfer assignments for additional per-call compensation . Participation in optional removals is not required to receive the $75,000 base salary. Applicable removal, embalming, or other eligible fees earned while on call may be paid in addition to the on-call shift compensation according to company policy. Total annual compensation may therefore exceed $75,000 depending upon the employee's participation in additional compensated duties. Schedule We recognize that funeral service requires flexibility from its professionals, and we believe that flexibility should work both ways. These positions will offer flexible scheduling , with the three-person embalming team working cooperatively to ensure appropriate preparation-room coverage while allowing reasonable flexibility in individual schedules. Our objective is to maintain sufficient staffing so that routine workload can be distributed appropriately rather than relying excessively upon a single embalmer. After-hours, weekend, holiday, removal, and on-call opportunities will be separately compensated when applicable. What This Position Is — and Isn't This is primarily an embalming and preparation-room position . We are looking for professionals who want to concentrate their skills on embalming, restorative care, and preparation of the deceased. While teamwork throughout the funeral home is expected, this position is not intended to function primarily as an arrangement counselor or funeral director position . The successful candidate should be comfortable working independently while also functioning as part of a collaborative three-embalmer team.
