ABOUT HANNUM STREET VETERINARY CLINIC
Hannum Street Veterinary Clinic is a brand new, privately and locally owned small animal hospital opening in Alcoa, TN. SCHEDULE & HOURS
Monday - Friday only | 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM (1-hour lunch) 4.5-day work week No evenings, no weekends, no holidays, no on-call No boarding, no grooming
RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Veterinary Assistant at HSVC, you'll play an essential role in delivering excellent patient care by: Patient Care & Handling Assist veterinarians and licensed technicians during examinations and treatments Safely restrain dogs and cats for medical procedures using Fear Free and low-stress techniques Obtain and record patient histories and vital signs accurately Prepare exam rooms and treatment areas between patients Prepare patients for surgery and monitor recovery under the direction of licensed staff Assist with surgical and anesthetic monitoring under the direction of licensed staff Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinary team Assist with end-of-life care and provide compassionate support to clients during difficult moments Diagnostics & Laboratory Collect samples and assist with in-house laboratory diagnostics (blood, urine, cytology, fecal) Assist with IV catheter placement and fluid therapy under the direction of licensed staff Assist with digital radiography including patient positioning and image acquisition Assist with ultrasound procedures and patient preparation Pharmacy & Inventory Fill and dispense medications accurately under veterinary supervision Maintain pharmacy organization and monitor expiration dates Notify supervising staff of medications and supplies needing to be reordered Maintain accurate controlled substance logs in compliance with DEA regulations Facility & Equipment Clean, sterilize, and maintain medical equipment and surgical instruments Maintain clean, organized, and safe exam rooms, treatment areas, and surgical suites Perform daily equipment checks and report maintenance issues promptly Client Communication & Cross-Training Educate pet owners on preventive care and home care instructions under veterinary direction Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients during drop-off, check-in, and discharge Work closely with teammates to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow Cross-train in front desk and receptionist duties to support our small team as needed Participate in team meetings, staff training, and continuing education opportunities
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
High school diploma or equivalent required Previous veterinary assistant experience required Demonstrated knowledge of veterinary medical terminology and procedures Proficiency in animal handling and restraint — Fear Free training or certification a plus Experience with in-house diagnostics and digital radiography preferred Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all tasks Calm, compassionate demeanor with clients and patients Team-oriented with a positive attitude and willingness to support all areas of the clinic Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and be on your feet for extended periods Comfortable and willing to work around animals of all temperaments and sizes
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Starting wage: $16.50 - $18.50/hr , commensurate with experience Uniform/scrub stipend after 90 days of employment Employee pet care discount after 30 days of employment Continuing education opportunities Supportive, small-team culture with room to grow
