Job Description

Aquia-Garrisonville Animal Hospital is seeking a reliable, experienced Veterinary Assistant who takes pride in providing excellent patient care and outstanding client service. We are a fast-paced small animal hospital looking for someone who works well under pressure, communicates clearly with clients and coworkers, and understands the importance of maintaining a smooth appointment flow throughout the day. This position is best suited for someone who is dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable in a physically active clinical environment. What You'll Do Assist veterinarians and licensed veterinary technicians during exams and treatments Safely restrain animals for procedures and diagnostics Obtain medical histories and accurately document patient information Educate clients on preventative care and treatment recommendations Assist with laboratory work and diagnostic imaging Prepare exam rooms and maintain treatment areas Fill prescriptions and assist with pharmacy duties Provide daily care for hospitalized pets (feeding, walking, bathing, monitoring) Clean and sterilize kennels, equipment, and hospital areas Help maintain inventory and receive supply shipments Support overall hospital operations including laundry and housekeeping What We're Looking For The ideal candidate will have: At least 1 year of experience in a veterinary clinic or animal hospital Strong work ethic and reliable attendance Ability to stay organized and focused during busy appointment schedules Excellent client communication skills A positive, professional attitude Ability to follow established hospital protocols and procedures A willingness to learn and support teammates when needed Veterinary medicine can be demanding, so we value team members who remain calm, take initiative, and maintain professionalism during busy or stressful situations. Physical Requirements This is an active clinical role that requires: Standing and moving throughout the hospital for extended periods Lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds repeatedly Handling animals of varying sizes and temperaments Exposure to common veterinary clinic conditions such as animal odors, noise, and biological cleanup Schedule This is a full-time position requiring schedule flexibility.
Shifts may include:
Day or evening shifts Weekends Some holidays 8-12 hour shifts depending on hospital scheduling needs Consistent attendance and punctuality are essential for this role.
