Broad Ripple Animal Clinic

Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) | $24$33/hr | Advanced GP Medicine

Job Description

Your license should mean something. At BRAC, it does. You didn't become a Registered Veterinary Technician to spend your career watching other people practice medicine. You trained to monitor anesthesia, interpret clinical information, perform skilled procedures, recognize changes in your patients, and make a meaningful difference in their care. At Broad Ripple Animal Clinic (BRAC), we expect you to use those skills.
And we pay accordingly:
$24-$33/hour. We're a privately owned, AAHA-accredited small-animal hospital that believes credentialed veterinary technicians should practice at the top of their training—not function as interchangeable veterinary assistants. But you should know one more thing before applying. This is
FAST-PACED.
We mean it. Our veterinarians see established-patient appointments in 20-minute increments , and our hospital maintains a busy medical, surgical, and urgent care caseload. This isn't a practice where you'll occasionally have a hectic afternoon. The pace is consistently demanding. You may manage anesthesia, coordinate treatments for hospitalized patients, run diagnostics, prepare medications, and respond to an urgent patient—all while keeping accurate records and communicating with your team. We don't expect you to do everything at once. We do expect you to recognize priorities, communicate clearly, work efficiently, and maintain excellent patient care when several things need attention. If you enjoy a high-energy hospital where the day moves quickly, you'll understand why our team thrives here. If you prefer a slower, more predictable clinical pace, BRAC probably isn't the right fit. We would rather be upfront about that than surprise you after you're hired. We built our hospital around utilizing RVTs. Many general practices say they value their technicians. We believe the difference is in how the hospital actually operates.
At BRAC:
RVTs and Veterinary Assistants have clearly defined responsibilities. Your clinical education and credentials determine how we use your skills. Dedicated Ward Assistants provide support with patient husbandry, restraint, and other essential tasks, helping RVTs focus on skilled medical care. Our doctors rely on RVTs as medical professionals who can recognize concerns, anticipate patient needs, and communicate clinical findings. Advanced medicine is part of our general practice. You don't necessarily have to leave GP to participate in complex procedures and challenging cases. Professional development matters. We provide structured onboarding, mentorship, and opportunities to expand your clinical capabilities. Our goal isn't simply to keep RVTs busy. It's to make their training valuable to the entire medical team. What will you actually do? You'll work across a diverse caseload, with responsibilities that may include:
Anesthesia:
Assess patients, administer anesthesia and monitor patients, identify changes in vital signs, troubleshoot concerns, and oversee recovery.
Dentistry:
Comprehensive dental cleanings, full-mouth dental radiographs, and anesthetic monitoring for dental procedures.
Advanced procedures:
Assisting with endoscopy and laparoscopic surgery, including equipment preparation and patient monitoring.
Diagnostics:
In-house laboratory testing, cytology, radiology, ultrasound support, and troubleshooting diagnostic equipment.
Hospitalized and urgent patients:
Emergency triage, treatments, medication administration, monitoring, and ongoing patient assessment.
Independent RVT appointments:
Performing appropriate procedures and providing client education within established veterinary protocols.
Client communication:
Explain treatments, review discharge instructions, and help clients understand their pets' ongoing care. You'll also be responsible for accurate medical records, safe medication handling, and clear communication with veterinarians and team members. This hands-on clinical position requires both technical proficiency and critical thinking. Compensation that recognizes your credentials $24-$33 per hour , based on experience, clinical proficiency, and demonstrated skills. We believe RVTs who take on greater clinical responsibility, develop their capabilities, and contribute to a high-performing medical team deserve opportunities for compensation growth.
Our practice also offers:
Structured 6-8 week onboarding with one-on-one mentoring and online learning Continued clinical education and professional development Opportunities to expand skills in advanced diagnostics, anesthesia, dentistry, and surgical support Who will succeed here? Experienced RVTs are strongly preferred. We're particularly interested in candidates with a solid foundation in anesthesia, dentistry, patient care, and clinical diagnostics—and who are ready to apply that experience in a demanding hospital. You'll be a strong fit if you: Hold an active Registered Veterinary Technician credential in Indiana, or are eligible to obtain one. Have two or more years of hands-on small-animal clinical experience preferred , particularly in anesthesia, dentistry, patient care, and diagnostics. Can prioritize multiple patients and competing demands without losing attention to detail. Recognize abnormal patient findings and know when to communicate concerns or escalate care. Remain composed, professional, and efficient when the hospital gets hectic. Take ownership of your responsibilities rather than waiting for direction on every task. Value teamwork, accountability, and continuing to improve your clinical skills. We strongly prefer experience because of our pace and caseload. We will consider candidates with less experience who demonstrate exceptional clinical preparation, sound judgment, and readiness for this environment. Schedule and expectations Full-time opportunities 10-12 hour shifts, with variable shifts Monday-Saturday, between 6:45 AM and 8:00 PM Rarely needed rotating Sunday shifts for hospitalized patients Ability to lift up to 40 pounds Continuing education required to maintain RVT credentials and clinical proficiency Big enough to build a career. Local enough to build relationships. BRAC has served the Indianapolis community since 1981. We're committed to practicing excellent medicine while investing in the people who make that care possible. If you're an RVT who wants more clinical responsibility, strong compensation, and a hospital that genuinely utilizes your training—and you know you can handle the pace—we'd like to meet you.
