Job Summary We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Fire Alarm Engineer ( NICET
III OR IV
) to design fire alarm systems and prepare technical drawings using drafting software. The candidate will be responsible for creating nationwide code-compliant, permit-ready fire alarm plans as well as a variety of other floor plan drawings as needed for our scheduled projects. The ideal candidate is self-motivated and able to manage multiple projects while maintaining high standards of accuracy, communication and responsiveness. Key Responsibilities Design fire alarm systems in accordance with applicable local and international codes and standards (NFPA 72, IBC, IFC, and local authority requirements). Prepare fire alarm layouts, shop drawings, as-built drawings, and schematic diagrams using AutoCAD or other CAD software. Perform device placement, wiring layouts, riser diagrams, battery calculations, voltage drop calculations, and circuit loading. Coordinate fire alarm designs with architectural, mechanical, electrical, and structural drawings. Review project specifications, contract documents, and client requirements. Select appropriate fire alarm equipment and ensure compatibility with project requirements. Support project managers and installation teams with technical guidance and design modifications. Prepare material take-offs, bill of quantities (BOQ), and technical documentation. Ensure all designs comply with relevant safety regulations, quality standards, and client specifications. Complete accurate inspection reports, service documentation, and job records. Coordinate with customers, contractors, and internal departments to complete projects successfully. Ensure work is completed safely, professionally, and in compliance with company standards. Stay current on industry codes, regulations, and technology developments. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. NICET Level III or IV Certification. Minimum 5 years of commercial fire alarm experience. Experience drawing floor plans. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Strong communication and customer service skills. Preferred Qualifications Additional fire/life safety certifications OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification. Physical Requirements Ability to climb ladders and work in mechanical rooms, ceilings, and construction environments. Ability to work in construction environments, mechanical rooms, rooftops, and occupied commercial facilities. Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. $71,000.00 - $74,000.00 per year
