General Service Technician Willard Garage - Waukee, Iowa Full-Time Monday-Friday No Weekends $45,000-$60,000 Annually Not Flat Rate Willard Garage has spent the last 12 years building a repair shop where high standards are supported by the right facility, equipment, training, and leadership. Brian Willard spent 20 years as an aircraft technician and inspector before he and his wife, Peggy, opened Willard Garage in 2014. What began with the two of them in a leased space has grown into a premium 15-bay repair center with seven technicians, two service advisors, and a growing customer base. The shop's standard is
MAD:
Meticulous Attention to Detail. That applies to everything from an oil service and digital inspection to a difficult diagnosis or major repair. Willard Garage is hiring a General Service Technician to take ownership of maintenance and light repair work, complete thorough digital inspections, and help keep a busy shop moving. This is a position with room to advance, but it can also be a strong long-term home for someone who enjoys general service and takes pride in doing it exceptionally well. What This Position Looks Like This position is expected to be approximately: 70% maintenance 20% mechanical repair 10% basic testing and diagnostics The work will include: Oil and filter services Fluid services Tires and tire repairs Road-force balancing Batteries Wipers, bulbs, and filters Brake repairs Light suspension and steering work Cooling-system repairs External engine components such as belts, pulleys, and sensors Basic battery, starter, and alternator testing Code retrieval and guided diagnostic procedures Complete digital vehicle inspections with clear notes and photos Willard Garage works on all makes and models other than exotics. The current workload is primarily Domestic and Asian, with European, light-duty diesel, hybrid, and electric vehicles also coming through the shop. This is not an entry-level position. Willard Garage needs someone who can independently complete routine maintenance and common repairs, recognize when something needs additional testing, and ask for help before guessing. A Shop Built to Support Good Work The shop moved into its new 15-bay facility in June 2025. It is clean, heated, genuinely air-conditioned, and equipped with modern lifts, tire and wheel equipment, alignment equipment, fluid-service machines, scan tools, specialty tools, and technician access to service information. Technicians use Tekmetric for digital vehicle inspections and have access to ProDemand and Identifix. More experienced technicians are available when a repair or diagnostic concern moves beyond the General Service Technician's current experience. The expectation is not that one person knows everything. The expectation is that everyone takes ownership of what they know, stays open to learning, and communicates when they need another perspective. Compensation The realistic earning range for this position is $45,000-$60,000 annually.
Compensation includes:
Hourly pay based on experience Team performance bonus paid every two weeks General Service Technician bonuses commonly range from $50-$150 per pay period Additional earning potential for ASE certifications Annual pay reviews The bonus pool is based on a percentage of the team's total gross profit for the pay period. Each technician's share is influenced by production, skill, experience, and tenure. This is an established part of Willard Garage's compensation plan, and the complete calculation will be explained during the interview process. Benefits and Support Monday-Friday schedule Technician hours of approximately 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. No weekends $2,340 annual tax-free tool reimbursement Health insurance with three plan options Willard Garage pays 50% of the employee's health insurance premium Spouse, child, and family coverage available Dental and vision insurance Insurance eligibility beginning the first of the month after 60 days 401(k) with a 100% company match up to 5% of employee pay 401(k) eligibility after six months Two weeks of combined vacation and sick PTO beginning in the first year (40 hours of PTO placed in the employee's bank at the start of employment An additional 40 hours accrued during the first year) PTO continues increasing with tenure Six paid holidays Company-provided uniforms with laundry service Paid technical training Employees are paid for their time spent in training ASE certifications are encouraged, paid for, and rewarded through increased pay Local, online, and in-house training opportunities Training and Growth Willard Garage expects technicians to continue learning and provides at least 30 hours of continuing education each year.

Someone who enjoys maintenance and general service and wants to become exceptionally strong in that role can build a long-term career here as well. What Will Make Someone Successful Here Two to five years of professional automotive experience is preferred. Brian and Peggy are present in the business and accessible to the team. New employees receive a structured introduction to the shop's systems, equipment, procedures, and expectations rather than being handed a ticket and left to figure everything out alone.
