Job Description

Candidate must live within 10 miles of Englewood Water District's office to qualify for this position due to emergency on-call requirements. General Description This is an entry level position responsible for assisting in the construction and maintenance of the water distribution system. The position primarily works with water infrastructure in the public right-of-way and easements. Essential Job Functions Performs installation and maintenance of mains, valves, hydrants, and service connections. Ability to make minor repairs to meters such as cleaning and replacing broken meter box tops and cleaning meter box of dirt and debris. Connects and disconnects water service, takes initial and final meter readings, and maintains appropriate records. Reports on safety hazards, repairs of equipment needed, and unsafe field conditions to managers. Performs daily vehicle checks. Cleans track and performs minor maintenance, as needed. Utilizes electronic devices to update work orders and for data collection. Routinely uses and operates various hand and power tools, as well as gas powered equipment to perform excavation and repairs. Performs general housekeeping duties as required. Follow oral and written directions to complete tasks designated by his/her direct supervisor. Responds to after-hours / weekend / holiday emergencies within 30 minutes while on emergency call-out duty. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Knowledge and understanding of departmental policies and procedures. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Skilled in verbal and written communication along with strong customer service skills. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to use electronic devices such as iPads, laptops, and phones to input data on work orders. Ability to perform unskilled and semi-skilled manual tasks and to follow instructions. Ability to maintain polite disposition at all times with the public and other crew members. Ability to work alone or with limited supervision and direction or in a team environment. Ability to perform heavy manual labor in adverse conditions. Ability to perform assigned work professionally and in an organized manner. Ability to work extended hours in the event of an emergency or critical incident. Education and Experience High School Diploma from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma is required. (A comparable amount of relevant training, education and/or experience may be substituted for the above qualifications.) Licenses and Certifications Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License. Must obtain Class A CDL w/ Tanker endorsement within six (6) months of hire date. Must obtain an FDEP Water Distribution Level III License within two (2) years of appointment. Working Conditions While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity to changing goals, priorities, and needs. Risk/Safety Conditions This position requires frequent exposure or risk to physical health and/or physical safety (e.g., exposure to environmentally hazardous material, heavy equipment, etc.) Physical Activities The work is moderate: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 30 pounds of force to move objects and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Additional requirements include:
balancing, bending, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking. Position requires the operation of a District vehicle. (Occasional=1-3 Hrs; Frequent=3-5 Hrs; Constant=5-8 Hrs - Per Workday) Emergency Response Statement Every District employee has emergency response responsibilities, though not every position will require routine assignments during an emergency event. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official job description. Assignments in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature, with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically and operationally challenging conditions.
