Job Description

Hotel Maintenance Engineer Hampton Inn Midland - Midland, Michigan Position Summary Hampton Inn Midland is seeking a qualified, experienced and dependable Hotel Maintenance Engineer to oversee the day-to-day maintenance of the hotel. The ideal candidate is service-oriented, self-motivated and capable of working independently. This position is responsible for keeping guest rooms, public areas, building systems and hotel equipment operating safely and efficiently while minimizing downtime and disruptions to the guest experience. This is a hands-on position for someone who can identify problems, determine the proper course of action and complete repairs correctly, safely and professionally. Essential Responsibilities Respond promptly and professionally to guest and team member maintenance requests. Perform repairs and preventive maintenance throughout guest rooms, public areas and back-of-house spaces. Troubleshoot and repair plumbing, electrical, HVAC, PTAC units, appliances, lighting, doors, locks, fixtures and other hotel equipment. Complete common guest room repairs, including: Unclogging drains and toilets Repairing faucets, fixtures and plumbing components Repairing lamps, outlets, switches and lighting Troubleshooting heating and air-conditioning equipment Repairing doors, locks, hardware, furniture and room equipment Test, troubleshoot and perform basic repairs on hotel equipment and building systems. Read and interpret meters, gauges, electrical testing devices and other measuring equipment. Complete scheduled preventive maintenance and guest room maintenance inspections in accordance with Hilton and hotel standards. Identify maintenance concerns before they become larger, more disruptive or more expensive repairs. Maintain the hotel's fire alarm, life-safety and emergency systems in accordance with company, Hilton brand and local requirements. Respond to hotel emergencies and take appropriate action to protect guests, employees and the property. Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, preventive maintenance documentation and equipment logs. Maintain an organized inventory of tools, replacement parts and supplies, and notify management when additional materials are needed. Coordinate with outside vendors and contractors when repairs require specialized service. Maintain mechanical rooms, storage areas, workshops and maintenance areas in a clean, safe and organized condition. Follow all safety procedures and properly handle chemicals, tools and equipment. Assist with seasonal exterior maintenance, snow and ice response, landscaping support and general property upkeep as needed. Perform other duties and projects assigned by hotel management. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Technical school education or certification in HVAC, electrical, plumbing or a related field is preferred. At least two years of recent maintenance experience in a hotel, apartment community, commercial building or similar environment. Previous hotel maintenance experience is strongly preferred. Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, refrigeration and general building maintenance. Experience using hand tools, power tools, meters and electronic testing equipment. Ability to troubleshoot equipment and determine whether an item should be repaired or replaced. Ability to read repair manuals, equipment instructions, diagrams and parts catalogs. Strong organizational, time-management and follow-up skills. Ability to prioritize multiple work orders and respond appropriately to urgent situations. Professional appearance, attitude and communication skills. Ability to work independently with limited supervision. Dependable attendance and reliable transportation. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays and emergency calls when required. Communication Communicates clearly and professionally with guests, hotel leadership, team members and outside vendors. Guest Service Understands that the condition and operation of the hotel directly affect guest satisfaction. Responds to concerns with professionalism, urgency and respect. Safety Follows proper safety procedures and helps maintain a safe environment for guests, employees, vendors and visitors. Work Environment This position works throughout the hotel, including guest rooms, public areas, mechanical rooms, storage areas, rooftops and exterior areas. The employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, wet or humid conditions, outdoor weather, chemicals, fumes, vibration, electrical equipment and moderate to loud noise levels. Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this position, the employee must be able to: Stand and walk for extended periods. Bend, reach, push, pull, crawl, crouch, kneel, climb and balance. Safely use ladders, hand tools and power tools. Work in tight or confined spaces when necessary. Regularly lift, carry or move items weighing up to 60 pounds. Clearly see, hear and communicate with guests and team members. Perform work requiring close vision, distance vision, color recognition and depth perception. Qualified applicants should have a strong work ethic, take pride in the condition of the property and understand the importance of completing repairs properly the first time.
