This position is responsible for ensuring the reliable operation, maintenance, and repair of a wide range of facility systems and high-speed packaging-line equipment. The Senior Maintenance Technician will help maintain a safe, efficient, and comfortable environment for all employees and facility occupants. This role offers an opportunity to lead maintenance activities, troubleshoot complex issues, support continuous improvement initiatives, and minimize equipment downtime while upholding strict cGMP and OSHA standards. The position will collaborate closely with Production and Quality teams to support safe and efficient manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
Lead the mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repair of high-speed liquid-filling equipment, batch mixing and blending tanks, positive-displacement and centrifugal pumps, inline cappers, labelers, shrink-sleeve applicators, conveyors, and end-of-line packaging systems. Quickly diagnose the root causes of equipment failures and implement lasting corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Preventive and Predictive Maintenance:
Execute, refine, and schedule preventive maintenance routines. Monitor equipment performance and condition to identify potential issues before they result in unplanned downtime or equipment failure.
Sanitary Systems and Changeovers:
Perform routine rebuilds, seal replacements, and valve servicing on sanitary stainless-steel piping, tri-clamp systems, and liquid-transfer lines. Support or perform line changeovers, tooling adjustments, and timing setups for different bottle sizes and liquid viscosities.
Facilities Maintenance:
Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on facility systems and infrastructure, including HVAC, plumbing, lighting, and basic electrical components. Inspect and maintain warehouse racking, identify damage, and coordinate repairs as needed. Support light construction projects, including building or modifying rooms, and perform basic forklift maintenance while coordinating more complex repairs with qualified service providers. Complete all work in accordance with applicable safety procedures and facility standards.
Compliance, Quality, and Safety:
Follow applicable requirements under 21 CFR Part 111 and/or Part 117, cGMP guidelines, company SOPs, and hygiene protocols in production and controlled areas. Maintain compliance with OSHA requirements and company safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Arc Flash, machine guarding, and confined-space entry. Complete accurate documentation for work orders, calibration logs, preventive maintenance activities, and other required records.
Leadership and Continuous Improvement:
Provide guidance, training, and technical coaching to line operators on proper equipment operation and basic autonomous maintenance. Assist with equipment installations, line relocations, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and continuous improvement initiatives designed to improve equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
Parts and Vendor Coordination:
Monitor spare-parts inventory for critical components and wear items. Submit purchase requisitions and communicate with equipment vendors and technical support representatives regarding parts sourcing, troubleshooting, repairs, and warranty service. Required Qualifications A successful candidate will possess: High school diploma or equivalent required. Trade school certification, apprenticeship completion, or an associate degree in Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Systems, Mechatronics, or a related field is strongly preferred. Three to five or more years of progressive maintenance experience in an FDA-regulated manufacturing environment, such as dietary supplements, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, or cosmetics. Strong mechanical expertise with pumps, gearboxes, drive systems, conveyors, timing belts, and pneumatic systems. Practical electrical and controls troubleshooting experience with systems up to 480V three-phase, including sensors, proximity switches, motor starters, and variable frequency drives (VFDs). Basic familiarity with reading PLC ladder logic and troubleshooting input/output (I/O) faults. Solid understanding of sanitary liquid-processing equipment, CIP/SIP procedures, and sanitary fitting assemblies. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work on ladders and elevated platforms, stand for extended periods, and work in variable industrial temperatures. Ability to occasionally work weekends and outside normal business hours to support special projects or urgent maintenance needs. Preferred Qualifications Additional desirable qualifications include: Experience with sanitary TIG welding and fabrication using 304/316 stainless steel. Formal certifications in electrical safety, such as
NFPA 70E
; Certified Maintenance & Reliability Technician (CMRT) certification; or forklift-operation certification. Experience maintaining high-speed rotary liquid fillers and automated packaging equipment.
