Job Title:
Utility Worker Job Description The Utility Worker prepares product for day shift operations, supports bulk material handling, and assists with grinding and furnace-related tasks in a manufacturing environment. This role monitors sifting and filling of bagging department storage tanks, performs routine housekeeping, and operates equipment safely and efficiently to support continuous plant operations. Responsibilities Prepare product for day shift use, ensuring materials are available and ready for production. Monitor the sifting and filling of bagging department storage tanks and promptly address any issues that arise. Assist the Furnace Operator with Grinding Department tasks to support efficient and safe operations. Perform daily plant housekeeping, including dust control and general cleanup throughout the facility. Use a dust particulate respirator during air wand blowdown of the plant site in accordance with safety requirements. Perform glass pile dressing and load cullet into the plant shredder system to maintain consistent material feed. Remove contamination identified in the glass pile to prevent equipment plug-ups and quality issues, and report significant issues to management or the lead operator. Operate plant equipment, including shredders and related machinery, in a safe and efficient manner. Apply knowledge of raw material processing flow to monitor operations and troubleshoot problems as they occur. Operate a forklift safely to move materials and support production and bagging operations. Monitor and coordinate bulk dust operations to ensure safe handling and proper system function. Perform minor maintenance and greasing operations on plant equipment to support reliable performance. Monitor dryer operations and gas rates to ensure the process runs efficiently and within required parameters. Follow all plant safety procedures and personal protective equipment requirements at all times. Essential Skills Experience performing general labor tasks in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Ability to operate a forklift safely and effectively. Ability to perform glass pile dressing and load cullet into a plant shredder system. Ability to identify and remove contamination from glass piles to protect equipment and product quality. Knowledge of raw material processing flow and the ability to troubleshoot process issues as they occur. Ability to monitor and coordinate bulk dust operations safely. Ability to perform minor maintenance and greasing operations on plant equipment. Ability to monitor dryer operations and gas rates to maintain efficient processing. Ability to use a dust particulate respirator as required for specific tasks. Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely and repeatedly. Ability to work safely around heavy equipment, moving machinery, and bulk materials. Strong adherence to safety procedures and personal protective equipment requirements. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior experience in a manufacturing setting, particularly with bagging, grinding, or furnace operations. Previous forklift experience in an industrial environment. Comfort working with general labor tasks such as cleaning, housekeeping, and material handling. Willingness to perform both production support and housekeeping duties as needed. Ability to communicate issues to management or lead operators clearly and promptly. Reliability and consistency in following standard operating procedures and safety guidelines. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a manufacturing setting that involves working around heavy equipment, bulk materials, and active production lines. You will work in an environment where dust, noise, and continuous operations are present, and where safe work practices are essential. The position requires consistent use of personal protective equipment, including prescription safety glasses or protective glasses worn over regular glasses (contact lenses are not permitted), steel-toe shoes, a hardhat, hearing protection, gloves, and long pants. Hi-visibility long sleeve shirts or a hi-visibility jacket must be worn year-round. The role also requires the ability to be medically certified to wear a respirator, as respirator use is mandatory for specific tasks such as air wand blowdown. The work is physically active, including lifting up to 50 pounds and performing hands-on tasks throughout the shift in an industrial plant environment. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.11 - $24.11/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
