This position performs routine transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Essential Duties:
The essential duties for the Roadway Maintenance Tech (Trans. Maintenance Tech) I, II, or III include:

Determines placement of traffic control devices and installs/moves devices.

Inspects barricades to ensure compliance with barricade standards.

Maintains picnic and rest areas, rights-of-way, maintenance yards and comfort stations.

Mows rights-of-way and picnic and rest areas; performs plant and landscape maintenance including trimming trees andbrush.

Assists with inspecting maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build andmaintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.

Performs other job responsibilities as assigned Additional duties for a Roadway Maintenance Tech (Trans. Maintenance Tech) II include:

Inspects routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications. Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems.

Inspects materials, equipment, and production procedures in a manufacturing plant or at point of supply to ensure construction materials meet Department specifications.

Works on a survey crew; operates survey instruments such as theodolite, transit and level, electronic distance meter, andtotal survey station. Additional duties for a Roadway Maintenance Tech (Trans. Maintenance Tech) III include:

Inspects routine and non-routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.

May serve as a work crew project lead ensuring work performed meets project specifications.

Trains other employees.
