SALARY:

$35,774.75- $35,984.00($17.19-$17.30/hourly) plus full benefits package

SUMMARY :

This position would be responsible for the maintenance and repairs of the county's gasoline engine automobiles, trucks, and equipment. Work orders, log sheets, and other paperwork are completed for all repair work conducted. Employees may be assigned to specialized or generalized repair areas. Employees must provide his/her own tools. This classification has no supervisory responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Performing automotive and equipment repairs including: o Performing preventive maintenance work on all vehicles and equipment o Inspecting and replacing brakes o Aligning wheels and replacing tires o Completing road test on repaired vehicles to ensure safety and performance meet County standards o Maintaining shop area, cleaning up debris, and discarding materials o May operate a vehicle designed to transport parts and tools to and from work sites • This position may be trained provide training for the following repairs o Inspecting and replacing belts and hoses o Installing rings and bearings o Servicing air conditioners o Replacing fuel and water pumps o Repairing small engine equipment such as lawn mowers, leaf machines, and other equipment o Adjusting, repairing, and/or replacing brakes, tires, fuel, electrical and cooling systems, and other defective parts as required o Assisting in maintenance and repair of heavy equipment

EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or General Educational Development Certificate (GED)
• 6-months to 1-year experience in automotive mechanical repair work
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Must be 18 years of age or older

• Must have no felony convictions within the past 10 years

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• Possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver's License (Class C) and a satisfactory motor vehicle record (MVR)

Knowledge of or ability to learn county and department operations, ordinances, policies, procedures, terminology, and materials as they relate to assignment Knowledge of Douglas County departments and their locations Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary for the safe operation of equipment, tools, machinery, and vehicles as required by assignment Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of all department equipment, tools, machinery, and vehicles as required by assignment Knowledge of product inventory; ability to identify parts Knowledge of specialized software, machinery, materials, terminology, and/or forms essential to the assignment Skill in handling and operating all assigned equipment, tools, and/or vehicles in a safe and proficient manner Skill in installing and repairing equipment required by assignment Skill in maintaining and keeping accurate records of inventory Skill in performing tasks which require attention to detail, and completing assigned jobs efficiently and correctly Skill in planning, prioritizing, and organizing work; ability to handle multiple work assignments and deadlines efficiently, accurately, and professionally Skill in typing and entering data into a computer system accurately and efficiently Ability to apply common sense to understand, follow, and complete verbal and written instructions Ability to communicate and interact clearly and effectively with all those contacted in the course of work in a professional and courteous manner, both orally and in writing; establishing and maintaining effective, professional, and cordial working relationships Ability to learn and perform simple repetitive tasks quickly Ability to perform basic vehicle maintenance procedures such as oil changing and lubrication Ability to read and comprehend routine instructions, short correspondence and memos Ability to resolve routine problems and complaints by applying or adapting established policies and procedures Ability and willingness to meet physical requirements and perform manual labor (including lifting and carrying heavy objects) indoors or outdoors for extended periods of time Ability and willingness to work with and assist other laborers to complete assigned project Ability to work in a team setting Ability to work independently in the absence of specific instructions or direct supervision
