These positions involve installing, modifying, and removing commercial HVAC mechanical systems for a national energy infrastructure contractor. These are active job sites with strict security, safety, and access requirements. Candidates should be aware that there is an extensive onboarding and clearance process before anyone can begin work. This includes comprehensive background checks, drug testing, employment verification, site-specific badging, and other client-required screening and onboarding requirements. The process may take time, and candidates cannot begin work until all required approvals and site access credentials have been completed.
Position Details Locations:
Washington, DC and Quantico, VA; assignments may be split between sites depending on project needs

Contract, with potential opportunity to convert to full-time

Approximately 6-18 months, depending on project requirements

4x10s — four 10-hour shifts per week

Project Environment:
Commercial/federal mechanical construction and energy infrastructure The Work As an HVAC Mechanical Pipefitter, you will be responsible for the installation, modification, maintenance, and removal of commercial HVAC piping systems and related mechanical equipment. You will work from mechanical drawings, specifications, isometric drawings, and project plans while following established safety and quality requirements.
Typical responsibilities include:
Fabricating, assembling, and installing hydronic, chilled water, and heating water piping systems Installing and connecting piping to chillers, boilers, pumps, heat exchangers, air-handling equipment, and other mechanical systems Measuring, cutting, threading, grooving, fitting, and assembling various types of pipe Working with steel, copper, and grooved piping systems Reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, blueprints, isometrics, specifications, and layouts Installing pipe supports, hangers, valves, fittings, and related components Rigging, positioning, and setting mechanical equipment and piping components Performing demolition and removal of existing HVAC piping, equipment, and mechanical systems Performing pressure testing and assisting with system flushing, startup, and commissioning activities Identifying potential installation issues and communicating them to supervisors or project management Maintaining proper alignment, slope, and support of piping systems Working safely around operating equipment, construction activities, lifts, scaffolding, and other trades Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area Following all company, contractor, client, OSHA, and job-site safety requirements Working cooperatively with other pipefitters, welders, electricians, HVAC technicians, and construction trades Performing other pipefitting and mechanical construction duties as assigned Required Qualifications 3+ years of professional pipefitting experience , preferably with commercial HVAC or mechanical construction experience Strong understanding of commercial HVAC piping systems Experience working with steel, copper, and grooved piping Ability to read and work from blueprints, mechanical drawings, isometric drawings, and specifications Ability to accurately measure, cut, thread, groove, fit, and install pipe Experience with mechanical equipment installation and piping connections Own standard hand tools required for the pipefitting trade OSHA 10 certification required; OSHA 30 preferred Ability to lift up to 50 pounds Ability to work at heights, in confined/tight spaces, and in varying outdoor conditions Ability to work a full 4x10 schedule Strong commitment to safety, quality, and following job-site procedures
IMPORTANT
Extensive Onboarding, Background Check & Drug Testing Please read this section carefully before applying. Because these pipefitters will be working on high-security commercial and federal-related job sites, the onboarding process is significantly more extensive than a typical construction position. Candidates must successfully complete all required screening and onboarding requirements before they are permitted to begin work.
This may include:
Extensive background checks conducted by the client Pre-employment drug testing Employment and/or work history verification Identity and eligibility verification Client-specific security and site-access screening Completion of required safety and site orientations Completion of all required employment and project documentation Obtaining special site-specific badging or credentials required for access Additional screening or requirements imposed by the client or individual job site Passing the initial hiring process does not guarantee immediate site access. Candidates must receive all required client approvals and credentials before reporting to the job site. Candidates should be prepared for the possibility that the onboarding and clearance process will take longer than a standard construction hiring process. No candidate will be permitted to begin work until all required background checks, drug testing, badging, and onboarding requirements have been successfully completed. Preferred Qualifications The following experience or certifications are preferred but not required: Welding and/or brazing certifications Chiller installation or replacement experience Boiler installation or replacement experience Experience working on Davis-Bacon or other federally funded projects Experience with large commercial mechanical systems Rigging experience Aerial lift certification Forklift certification Confined-space experience Experience working on federal, military, government, or other security-controlled job sites What We're Looking For We are looking for dependable, experienced pipefitters who understand commercial HVAC mechanical work and can perform safely and efficiently in a highly regulated job-site environment.
