Position Description:
The Installation Technician is a field-based role responsible for the hands-on installation of paint spray booths, mixing rooms, prep stations, and related equipment at customer locations across a regional and national territory. Working under the direction of an Installation Crew Lead, the Installation Technician executes equipment layout, assembly, and ductwork installation according to project blueprints and build drawings, while maintaining a safe, organized, and professional job site at all times. This role is the foundation of Garmat's Installation career track and is designed for individuals with strong mechanical aptitude who take pride in quality craftsmanship, attention to detail, and representing Garmat's standards in the field. Essential Duties
- Read and interpret blueprints and build drawings to support accurate equipment layout and installation under the direction of the Crew Lead
- Install various types of equipment used in paint spray booths, mixing rooms, and prep stations
- Install ductwork from booth to roof per project specifications
- Perform accurate equipment layout and installation in accordance with project blueprints
- Unload booth parts and components from crates and stage appropriately for installation
- Accurately complete offset measuring as required for proper equipment placement
- Operate hand and power tools and related installation equipment safely and efficiently
- Keep the job site clean, organized, and safe at all times
- Maintain company vehicle with supplied tools and equipment in a clean, organized, and road-ready condition
- Effectively communicate job site progress, issues, or concerns to the Installation Crew Lead in a timely manner
- Work under the direction of the Crew Lead and collaborate with team members to meet project timelines
- Accurately complete and submit job site documentation, work orders, and progress reports within MobiWork
- Wear all required PPE properly, follow all required safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work area
- Follow work injury and reporting process
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Installation Crew Lead or Installation Manager Required Qualifications
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Strong mechanical aptitude with demonstrated ability to work with hand and power tools
- Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and build drawings
- Ability to work effectively as part of a crew under the direction of a lead technician
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate, quality installation work
- Professional verbal communication skills for job site and customer interaction
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing site conditions
- Proficiency with a mobile device or tablet for work order documentation
- Ability and willingness to travel regionally and out of state, including overnight stays as required Preferred Qualifications
- 1 year of experience in a field installation, construction, or related technical role
- Prior experience with automotive or industrial paint booth systems
- Working knowledge of high-BTU heating equipment
- Experience with MobiWork or similar field service scheduling software
- Vocational training or technical coursework in mechanical, electrical, or construction-related fields Physical Requirements This position involves significant manual labor and requires the ability to perform the following physical activities:
Manual Dexterity and Repetitive Motion:
Ability to perform repetitive hand, wrist, and upper body movements and maintain fine motor control necessary for tool operation, equipment adjustments, and component handling throughout the work shift.
Lifting, Carrying, Pushing, and Pulling:
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 80 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Reaching and Mobility:
Ability to reach overhead, above shoulder level, and below the waist; walk continuously; and regularly bend, stand, kneel, crouch, and stoop for extended periods.
Climbing and Elevated Work:
Ability to climb ladders and stairs and work at elevated heights while maintaining balance and stability.
Tool and Equipment Operation:
Ability to safely and proficiently operate small and large manual and powered tools required for assigned tasks.
Driving and Vehicle Operation:
Ability to operate a company vehicle for extended periods, including long-distance travel; must be able to sit for prolonged durations, safely navigate varying traffic and weather conditions, and load and unload tools and materials as required.
Environmental and Weather Exposure:
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions and tolerate exposure to industrial noise, dust, temperature fluctuations, and other industrial conditions.
Use of PPE:
Ability to wear required personal protective equipment including safety glasses, gloves, steel or composite toe footwear, hard hats, respirators, or hearing protection for extended periods.
Hearing:
Ability to hear and respond to verbal instructions, warning signals, and equipment alarms in an industrial environment with varying noise levels.
Vision:
Ability to maintain close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment necessary to safely operate equipment and inspect materials.
