Maintenance Helper Job Description The Tool Room Technician ensures that all shop machinery, tooling, and production equipment operate safely and efficiently to support optimal manufacturing performance. This role focuses on preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical and electrical systems, while maintaining accurate documentation and supporting production changeovers and setups. Responsibilities Ensure all shop machinery and equipment are in proper working condition to support continuous production. Evaluate, monitor, and maintain stores and tooling to achieve optimal production performance. Maintain accurate documentation of all parts and tooling, including usage, maintenance, and inventory records. Assist with changeovers and setups on the production line as needed to minimize downtime. Maintain tooling in a state of quality and readiness for upcoming changeovers. Perform routine preventive maintenance on tooling and shop machinery to ensure reliability and performance. Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain all production and auxiliary production equipment, including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. Perform routine and scheduled preventive maintenance on all production machinery and equipment to ensure optimal performance and operational readiness. Quickly diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues on equipment and building systems to minimize downtime. Analyze and diagnose mechanical and electrical problems to determine and execute proper repairs. Dismantle machines and equipment to inspect, test, and perform preventive maintenance. Identify and promptly report equipment malfunctions, material issues, and safety and quality concerns to supervisory personnel. Follow all safety procedures and take a proactive role in plant safety, ensuring that equipment conforms to safety regulations. Comply with company personnel policies, safety policies, and Good Manufacturing Practices. Communicate daily issues, maintenance activities, and relevant information to supervisors and other employees as needed. Perform special projects and assignments as directed by supervisory personnel. Essential Skills Industrial electrical experience, including at least PLC troubleshooting experience. Hands-on experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs), drives, and panel signal troubleshooting. Manufacturing experience in a production environment. Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills. Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. Experience working with 480V and 3-phase electrical systems. Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics. Proficiency with hand tools, calipers, tape measures, and other basic measuring and inspection tools. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence and complete maintenance documentation. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to coworkers and other stakeholders. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Demonstrated problem-solving skills, including individual and group facilitation. Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Mechanical aptitude and strong attention to detail. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a lean manufacturing environment. Previous tube manufacturing experience. Experience with production machinery operation and setup. Familiarity with blueprint reading and interpreting technical drawings. Experience as a maintenance technician in an industrial setting. Strong organizational skills for managing tooling, stores, and documentation. Detail-oriented approach to inspections, maintenance tasks, and recordkeeping. Work Environment This role is based in a manufacturing facility with a moderate noise level. The position follows a 12-hour shift schedule on a 4x2 rotating pattern, with both 1st shift (7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.) and 3rd shift (7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.) options, and requires working every other weekend. You will work around production and auxiliary equipment, shop machinery, and tooling, performing hands-on mechanical and electrical tasks. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wilkes-Barre, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
