Spray Technician Lead — Commercial & Multifamily Retana Builders | Frederick, MD (projects throughout the Washington Metro Area, Maryland, and Virginia) Full-Time | $27-$35/hour, based on experience
About Retana Builders:
Retana Builders is a specialty contractor delivering painting, wallcovering, drywall, metal framing, acoustical ceilings, and interior finish work for commercial, government, and residential projects across the DMV. We work with some of the region's leading general contractors. We are growing and looking for a Spray Technician who takes pride in production, quality, and leading a crew the right way.
The Role:
The Spray Technician Lead runs a crew of 3-4 painters in the field and reports directly to the Job Foreman and Project Manager. You will own daily production on your floor or building, keep the spray rig running, and make sure every unit is prepped, coated, and punched out to owner-turnover standards. This is a hands-on lead position: you will spray, brush, roll, and caulk alongside your crew while setting the pace and the standard.
What You'll Do:
Lead, direct, and coordinate a crew of 3-4 painters to hit daily production targets Spray one coat of primer or finish paint on 12+ average-size apartment units per day Set up, operate, clean, and properly maintainairless spray rigs, tips, hoses, and filters Brush and roll where spraying is not practical or where the spec requires it Prepare surfaces: patching, sanding, caulking, masking, and protection Read and work from plans, finish schedules, specifications, RFIs, and approved submittals Verify products and colors against submittals before application Shift between production mode and punch-out mode as the schedule demands, preparing units for owner turnover Communicate daily progress, material needs, and field issues to the Foreman and Project Manager Maintain a clean, safe work area uand follow all company and site safety requirements
What We're Looking For:
Extensive commercial and/or multifamily painting experience Proven experience handling, cleaning, and maintaining spray equipment Prior experience leading a small crew or acting as a lead hand Strong brush and roll skills and a sharp eye for finish quality Ability to prep surfaces and caulk to a professional standard Comfortable reading construction documents and following written scope Reliable, punctual, and able to work on fast-track schedules Able to lift 50+ lbs, work on ladders and lifts, and stand for extended periods Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to job sites across the
DMV OSHA 10
preferred; Spanish/English bilingual a plus
Compensation & Benefits:
