About Luisa Graff Jewelers Luisa Graff Jewelers is a locally owned, independent jewelry store serving the Colorado Springs community since 1999. We are known for our extensive selection of new and previously loved jewelry, full-service repair shop, and commitment to providing every guest with knowledgeable, professional, and trustworthy service. We are looking for an experienced Gold & Gemstone Buyer to join our team. This position requires strong technical knowledge of precious metals, diamonds, colored gemstones, and estate jewelry, along with the confidence and professionalism necessary to work directly with customers during the buying process. Position Overview The Gold & Gemstone Buyer is responsible for professionally evaluating jewelry, precious metals, diamonds, gemstones, coins, and other items presented to the store for potential purchase. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience evaluating jewelry and precious metals and will be comfortable independently using industry-standard testing equipment and gemological tools. This individual must be able to combine technical knowledge with sound judgment, attention to detail, excellent customer service, and discretion. Because our customers are often bringing in items with both significant financial and sentimental value, professionalism, integrity, and the ability to clearly explain the evaluation process are essential. Key Responsibilities Evaluate gold, platinum, silver, and other precious metals for authenticity, purity, weight, and value. Identify and evaluate diamonds, colored gemstones, and other jewelry materials. Confidently use appropriate industry tools and testing methods, including scales, loupes, microscopes, gemstone testing equipment, metal testing methods, and other professional identification tools. Examine jewelry construction, hallmarks, maker's marks, condition, age, and other characteristics that may affect value. Evaluate estate and previously owned jewelry for potential purchase and resale. Calculate purchase offers using current precious-metal markets, gemstone characteristics, condition, resale potential, and company buying guidelines. Clearly and professionally explain evaluations and purchase offers to customers. Maintain accurate records and documentation for all purchases and transactions. Follow company procedures and all applicable requirements related to identification, documentation, security, and precious-metal purchasing. Stay informed about precious-metal markets, gemstone values, jewelry trends, and industry developments. Work independently and confidently while collaborating with sales, estate, inventory, management, and repair departments. Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling high-value merchandise and customer information. Provide a professional, welcoming experience regardless of whether a transaction results in a purchase. Required Qualifications Previous professional experience buying, evaluating, or appraising gold, precious metals, gemstones, diamonds, or estate jewelry. Strong working knowledge of precious-metal identification and testing. Demonstrated ability to identify and evaluate diamonds and colored gemstones using appropriate gemological tools. Comfortable working with high-value jewelry and conducting evaluations independently. Strong mathematical skills and attention to detail. Ability to make informed decisions while following established buying parameters. Excellent verbal communication and customer service skills. Professional appearance, demeanor, and communication. High level of integrity, discretion, reliability, and accountability. Ability to work independently while also contributing to a team environment. Preferred Qualifications GIA education or credentials , such as Graduate Gemologist (GG), Graduate Diamonds, Graduate Colored Stones, or Applied Jewelry Professional (AJP). Certifications, coursework, or professional education through GIA or other recognized gemological, jewelry, appraisal, or precious-metal organizations. Experience purchasing estate jewelry from the public. Knowledge of vintage, antique, designer, and signed jewelry. Experience evaluating larger diamonds, rare gemstones, and higher-value jewelry. Knowledge of jewelry manufacturing and repair techniques. Experience working in an independent or luxury jewelry environment.
