1 st Shift Join the NexGen Manufacturing Team NexGen Manufacturing is seeking an experienced Machinist Team Lead to provide hands-on leadership in our Machine Shop. This is a working team lead position in a fast-paced, low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment. The Machinist Team Lead will work alongside the machining team while coordinating daily priorities, assigning work based on employee skill and availability, supporting the production schedule, and developing a cross-trained team capable of meeting changing customer requirements. The ideal candidate has strong machining experience, leadership skills, and the technical ability to train and mentor employees across CNC and manual machining operations. What You'll Do The Machinist Team Lead will lead the day-to-day activities of employees within the Machine Shop while remaining actively involved in machining operations. This position will assign work orders based on production priorities, employee availability, and skill level, while helping manage and maintain the department production schedule to support customer delivery requirements. This role will attend daily production meetings and regularly scheduled cross-functional production meetings and will coordinate with Production and other departments to resolve priorities, production needs, and workflow issues. The Machinist Team Lead will train, mentor, and cross-train team members to develop machining skills and increase department flexibility. The position will also participate in interviewing and selecting new team members, provide onboarding and job-specific training to new employees, and provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and skill development. The Machinist Team Lead will participate in employee performance reviews, including introductory and annual reviews, and will monitor employee attendance and performance while coordinating with management as appropriate. As a working team lead, this position will operate CNC mills and lathes as well as manual mills and lathes and will set up and operate machinery throughout the Machine Shop as needed. The Machinist Team Lead will inspect machined parts using appropriate measuring and inspection equipment to verify quality requirements. Additional responsibilities include ordering tooling, replacement parts, and other machining supplies as needed, maintaining organization of department tooling and the tool vending system, maintaining appropriate departmental records and documentation, and supporting a safe, organized, and productive work environment. What We're Looking For Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED. Vocational, technical, or trade school education in machining or a related field is preferred. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on machining experience in a manufacturing environment, including experience operating and setting up CNC mills and lathes and operating manual mills and lathes. Five years of prior team lead, supervisory, or other leadership experience preferred. Candidates should have strong ability to read and use calipers, tape measures, and other precision measuring and inspection tools, along with the ability to read and interpret manufacturing documentation and work instructions. This position requires the ability to organize multiple priorities and remain effective in a fast-paced production environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are important, as the Machinist Team Lead will work closely with employees, management, and other departments. Candidates should also be comfortable training, coaching, and developing employees with varying skill levels and should be able to work independently while supporting the overall needs of the team. Physical & Work Environment Requirements This is an active manufacturing position that requires the ability to regularly stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday. Employees must be able to frequently lift, carry, push, pull, move, or position materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. The manufacturing environment may include exposure to dust, industrial liquids, solvents, noise, and varying temperatures, including both hot and cold conditions. Required personal protective equipment may include hearing protection, safety glasses, steel-toed footwear, and other protective equipment as required. This position is assigned to first shift. Overtime, including mandatory overtime, may be required based on production and business needs.
