We are seeking an experienced precision machinist to set up and operate Swiss CNC lathes while producing components to tight tolerances. This is a hands-on machining position focused on CNC setup, machine-side G-code adjustments, precision measurement, troubleshooting, and maintaining quality throughout production runs.
Key Responsibilities:
Set up and operate Swiss CNC lathes, with equipment most closely aligning with Citizen and Star Swiss machines. Machine precision components to tolerances down to .0001" while independently measuring and verifying parts. Perform CNC setups, including tooling, workholding, offsets, and machine preparation for production runs. Understand and make necessary G-code settings and adjustments at the machine. Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, sketches, dimensions, and tolerances to determine machining requirements. Use micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision measuring equipment to verify dimensional accuracy. Perform first-article inspections and ongoing in-process inspections throughout production runs. Identify dimensional drift and make appropriate offsets, tooling changes, or machine adjustments to bring parts back into specification. Troubleshoot machining, tooling, setup, and quality problems. Prepare tooling requirements according to setup instructions for each job. Efficiently operate multiple CNC machines while maintaining productivity and quality expectations. Cross-train within Quality Control and on other machines throughout the shop.
Requirements:
5+ years of CNC machining experience, ideally within Swiss or CNC Lathe/turning. Proven ability to machine and independently measure precision components to tolerances down to .0001". Experience measuring your own parts and taking ownership of dimensional accuracy. Strong proficiency with micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision measuring tools. Strong CNC setup experience, including tooling, workholding, offsets, and machine preparation. Understanding of G-code settings at the machine and ability to make edits, offsets, and adjustments. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, dimensions, tolerances, and machining instructions. Ability to identify when a part is drifting out of tolerance and determine the appropriate machine, tooling, or offset adjustment. Strong mechanical aptitude and machining troubleshooting skills. High School Diploma or equivalent. Comfortable working in a hands-on machine-shop environment.
Preferred:
5+ years of direct Swiss machining experience. Citizen or Star Swiss experience. Strong Swiss setup experience. Experience operating multiple CNC machines simultaneously. Conversational programming experience. Vocational or technical machining education. Knowledge of technical math, including geometry and trigonometry. Experience with ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 Quality Management Systems. Forklift or material-handling experience.
