About the Role As a Precision Threading Machinist, you will leverage your expertise in long-shaft machining to produce high-tolerance components for critical infrastructure and defense applications. You will be responsible for the end-to-end setup and operation of specialized milling equipment, ensuring that every custom thread profile meets rigorous engineering standards. Responsibilities Configure and operate specialized thread milling machinery to produce precision lead screws and custom thread profiles on shafts ranging from 4 to 40 feet. Execute complex rigging and material handling procedures using overhead cranes and steady rests to ensure the stability of extended-length workpieces. Achieve superior quality outcomes by maintaining tight tolerances on lead accuracy and pitch diameter through meticulous inspection processes. Optimize production efficiency by selecting appropriate tooling, calculating feeds and speeds, and managing coolant flow for various alloys, including chromoly and stainless steel. Interpret complex engineering prints and technical drawings to translate customer specifications into high-performance finished components. Maintain a high standard of craftsmanship by performing precise tool maintenance and ensuring consistent, defect-free production runs. Qualifications Required Skills Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience operating thread milling equipment, specifically Lees Bradnor or similar systems. Demonstrated ability to fabricate parts independently from technical drawings and engineering specifications. Proficiency in using precision measuring tools, including thread pitch micrometers, dial indicators, and the 3-wire inspection method. Experience with safe rigging practices and overhead crane operation for large-scale material handling. Must possess a personal set of precision machining tools. Preferred Skills Advanced knowledge of mitigating deflection, vibration, and thermal growth in long-shaft machining. Proven ability to fabricate and modify custom precision cutting tools. Experience working with high-tensile materials and specialized bronzes in a heavy manufacturing environment.
