We are looking for an experienced Manual Lathe Machinist to join our machine shop. Candidates should have previous hands-on experience operating manual lathes and be comfortable setting up and machining parts independently. This position will handle a variety of day-to-day lathe work while also having the opportunity to train alongside an experienced machinist on larger, more complex parts and setups. Our shop performs a variety of one-off and low-volume work rather than repetitive production. This is a good opportunity for someone with a solid manual lathe background who wants to continue developing their skills and gain experience with larger machining work. Responsibilities
Set up and operate manual lathes
Machine a variety of small, medium, and larger parts
Perform turning, facing, boring, drilling, threading, and other lathe operations
Read and work from blueprints and drawings
Determine appropriate tooling, speeds, and feeds
Hold required dimensions and tolerances
Inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, indicators, and other precision measuring equipment
Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and setup issues
Learn larger and more complex lathe jobs and setups from an experienced machinist
Maintain a clean and organized work area
Assist with other machine shop work as needed Qualifications
Previous manual lathe experience required
Experience setting up and operating manual lathes
Ability to read blueprints and understand machining tolerances
Experience using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring equipment
Basic understanding of tooling, speeds, and feeds
Good mechanical and problem-solving skills
Dependable and able to work independently
Willingness to learn larger and more complex machining operations Training & Growth We are looking for someone who already has a foundation in manual lathe machining, but we do not expect every candidate to have experience with all of the larger or more specialized work performed in our shop.
For the right individual, training will be provided on our larger parts, setups, and machining processes. The goal is to find someone who can contribute to our everyday lathe work while developing the skills needed to take on more advanced jobs over time.
