Manual Lathe Machinist

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Manual Lathe Machinist to join our machine shop. Candidates should have previous hands-on experience operating manual lathes and be comfortable setting up and machining parts independently. This position will handle a variety of day-to-day lathe work while also having the opportunity to train alongside an experienced machinist on larger, more complex parts and setups. Our shop performs a variety of one-off and low-volume work rather than repetitive production. This is a good opportunity for someone with a solid manual lathe background who wants to continue developing their skills and gain experience with larger machining work. Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate manual lathes
  • Machine a variety of small, medium, and larger parts
  • Perform turning, facing, boring, drilling, threading, and other lathe operations
  • Read and work from blueprints and drawings
  • Determine appropriate tooling, speeds, and feeds
  • Hold required dimensions and tolerances
  • Inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, indicators, and other precision measuring equipment
  • Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and setup issues
  • Learn larger and more complex lathe jobs and setups from an experienced machinist
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Assist with other machine shop work as needed Qualifications
  • Previous manual lathe experience required
  • Experience setting up and operating manual lathes
  • Ability to read blueprints and understand machining tolerances
  • Experience using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring equipment
  • Basic understanding of tooling, speeds, and feeds
  • Good mechanical and problem-solving skills
  • Dependable and able to work independently
  • Willingness to learn larger and more complex machining operations Training & Growth We are looking for someone who already has a foundation in manual lathe machining, but we do not expect every candidate to have experience with all of the larger or more specialized work performed in our shop.
For the right individual, training will be provided on our larger parts, setups, and machining processes. The goal is to find someone who can contribute to our everyday lathe work while developing the skills needed to take on more advanced jobs over time.
