POSITION SUMMARY / OBJECTIVE

Performs precision hand-finishing and polishing of graphite, models, and ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces to meet specified surface finishes and dimensional requirements. Uses finish charts, visual aids, and established procedures to prepare workpieces for finishing, texturing, and polishing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Removes 3-D scallops and EDM finishes using angle grinders, profilers, pencil grinders, stones, and other hand-finishing tools.
• Handworks and contours ejector pins, radii, welds, mismatches, and other surface features.
• Applies polishing techniques to prepare workpieces for buffing and mirror finishes.
• Uses required personal protective equipment when performing acid tests for texturing preparation.
• Masks cavities, cores, and other designated areas before sandblasting.
• Performs mold touch-up work while molds are installed in molding presses, as required.
• Identifies problem areas and works with supervisors, lead personnel, and co-workers to determine efficient solutions.
• Communicates clearly with supervisors and co-workers to receive instructions and coordinate work activities.
• Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with the 5S Initiative.
• Operates forklifts as required; forklift certification is required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Minimum of four years of relevant trade school, vocational training, apprenticeship, or hands-on work experience.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedures, manuals, and other work-related documents.
• Ability to follow written, verbal, and diagram-based instructions and use sound judgment and common sense to complete assigned tasks.
• Ability to work effectively with supervisors and co-workers to identify and resolve work-related issues.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee must regularly be able to stand; use hands and fingers to handle tools and materials; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally walk and communicate verbally. The employee must have sufficient hearing to monitor machine and cutting-tool sounds, recognize changes in operating conditions, and take appropriate action. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Required visual abilities include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to read gauges, precision instruments, and other work-related measurements.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee regularly works around moving mechanical parts, equipment, mold components, and operating machinery. The position may involve exposure to fumes and airborne particles, including dust and mist, as well as oils, cutting fluids, cleaning fluids, solvents, and rust preventatives. The work environment is typically loud. Required personal protective equipment must be worn in accordance with established safety procedures. Night Shift Schedule:

Monday through Thursday nights, 3:30 PM-2:00 AM (10-hour shifts).

Friday nights:

Friday night work may occasionally be required, but this is rare.

Overtime pay:

Any time worked over 10 hours in a night is paid at time and a half.

Pay:

$25.00 - $33.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
