QA/QC SupervisorJob Summary The QA/QC Supervisor is responsible for leading and overseeing quality assurance and quality control activities throughout C&J Equipment Manufacturing's fabrication and manufacturing operations. This position ensures that products, materials, welding, fabrication, assembly, documentation, and processes meet applicable customer specifications, company standards, drawings, codes, and quality requirements. The QA/QC Supervisor provides leadership to Quality personnel, works closely with Production, Welding, Engineering, Project Management, and Operations, and helps maintain a strong culture of quality, safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Supervise and provide direction to QA/QC Inspectors and other quality personnel. Establish daily priorities and coordinate quality inspection activities with production schedules. Ensure inspections are completed accurately, consistently, and within required timelines. Review engineering drawings, specifications, work orders, customer requirements, and applicable codes and standards. Verify that materials, components, fabrication, welding, coating, assembly, and finished products conform to specified requirements. Coordinate required inspections and testing throughout the manufacturing process. Review and maintain inspection records, quality documentation, test reports, and certificates. Verify material traceability, identification, and required documentation. Monitor welding and fabrication activities for compliance with approved procedures and applicable requirements. Coordinate with welding personnel regarding weld quality, procedures, qualifications, and inspection requirements. Identify nonconforming materials, workmanship, or finished products and ensure appropriate corrective action is taken. Lead the nonconformance process, including documentation, disposition, corrective action, and follow-up. Work with Production and Engineering to identify root causes of quality issues and implement effective corrective actions. Conduct or oversee dimensional inspections using appropriate measuring and inspection equipment. Review inspection results and determine whether products are acceptable for the next stage of production or final release. Assist with customer, third-party, and regulatory inspections as required. Maintain organized and accurate quality records for completed projects. Ensure quality documentation is completed and submitted according to project and company requirements. Assist with developing, implementing, and improving quality procedures, inspection plans, and work instructions. Monitor quality trends and identify opportunities to reduce rework, scrap, defects, and customer complaints. Participate in internal audits and support external audits when required. Communicate quality concerns promptly to Production Management, Engineering, Project Management, and senior leadership. Train and coach Quality personnel on inspection procedures, documentation, company standards, and quality expectations. Promote accountability and consistency throughout the QA/QC department. Maintain a professional working relationship with customers, inspectors, vendors, and employees. Perform other duties as assigned by management. Leadership Responsibilities Lead, train, and develop QA/QC personnel. Establish clear expectations for inspection accuracy, documentation, productivity, and professionalism. Monitor employee performance and provide coaching and feedback. Ensure adequate quality coverage for production activities and project requirements. Promote teamwork between Quality, Production, Welding, Engineering, and Project Management. Lead by example in safety, integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to quality. Quality Assurance Responsibilities Help ensure manufacturing processes consistently produce products that meet established requirements. Review quality metrics and identify recurring defects or process issues. Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions. Assist in maintaining and improving the company's quality management processes. Support continuous improvement initiatives designed to improve quality, reduce rework, and increase production efficiency. Ensure inspection and testing equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and available when required. Maintain accurate and complete quality documentation and records. Qualifications Previous QA/QC experience in steel fabrication, welding, manufacturing, energy equipment, structural steel, or a related industrial environment. Previous supervisory or leadership experience strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of fabrication and welding processes. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, specifications, and work instructions. Strong understanding of dimensional inspection and measurement techniques. Familiarity with applicable welding, fabrication, and manufacturing codes and standards. Experience with quality documentation, inspection reports, nonconformance reports, and corrective actions. Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other applicable computer systems. Ability to work effectively with employees at all levels of the organization. Preferred Qualifications Experience in a structural steel or heavy fabrication environment. AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification. NDT certification or experience with non-destructive examination methods. Experience with ASME, AWS, API, or other applicable industry standards. Experience with quality management systems and internal auditing. Experience working with customer and third-party inspectors. Previous experience supervising Quality Inspectors. Physical Requirements Ability to walk and stand for extended periods in a manufacturing environment. Ability to climb stairs, ladders, platforms, and access large fabricated structures. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and work around steel components and manufacturing equipment. Ability to safely work around welding, fabrication, lifting equipment, forklifts, cranes, noise, dust, and other industrial hazards. Ability to wear required PPE throughout the workday. Work Environment The QA/QC Supervisor works primarily in a heavy manufacturing and fabrication environment and regularly interacts with production personnel, welders, fabricators, engineers, project managers, customers, and inspectors. The position requires a strong presence on the manufacturing floor and the ability to balance inspection requirements with production schedules while maintaining C&J's standards for safety and quality. Performance Expectations The successful QA/QC Supervisor will: Maintain high standards of product quality and workmanship. Ensure inspections and documentation are completed accurately and on time. Reduce rework, defects, and quality-related production delays. Develop and maintain a strong, accountable Quality team. Communicate quality issues quickly and effectively. Promote continuous improvement throughout the manufacturing process. Build strong working relationships across Production, Engineering, Welding, and Project Management. Maintain a safety-first and quality-focused work environment.
