TOLM GROUP, INC. FIELD SURVEY TECHNICIAN - WATER/WASTEWATER CONSTRUCTION TOLM
Group is seeking a Field Survey Technician to support construction surveying and layout activities for water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, pipelines, and related utility infrastructure. The right candidate will be detail-oriented, dependable, comfortable working in active construction environments, and able to support accurate field layout using GPS, robotic total stations, levels, and related survey equipment. This position reports to the Layout Party Chief and assists with field data collection, project control, construction staking, and layout for underground utilities, piping, excavation, concrete, structures, mechanical equipment, and process facilities.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
One to three years of survey experience in construction, heavy civil, underground utility, or related infrastructure preferred. Working knowledge of construction surveying and layout practices, preferably in water/wastewater, heavy civil, or underground utility construction. Ability to use GPS units, robotic total stations, levels, and related survey equipment. Able to set and maintain control points and verify elevations, dimensions, grades, and field layout. Able to assist with construction staking and layout for underground water and sewer piping, treatment plant structures, pump stations, concrete, mechanical equipment, and related project components. Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, or similar survey software. Ability to read and interpret construction plans, grades, elevations, dimensions, and basic survey data. Strong math, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills. Water/wastewater construction experience is preferred. This position requires regular travel and overnight stays at project locations during the workweek. Valid driver's license and must be insurable under TOLM's Commercial Auto Liability policy. WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
The Field Survey Technician should be able to take direction from the Layout Party Chief and turn it into accurate, reliable field support. This includes collecting field data, assisting with control and staking, verifying grades and elevations, supporting pipe and structure layout, maintaining survey equipment, and communicating discrepancies before they affect construction production. We are looking for someone who understands that survey support directly affects how accurately and efficiently the project is built.
The Technician should know:
What are we laying out? What control, grade, elevation, or dimension applies? Is the field data accurate? Does the layout match the plans? What does the field crew need next? Are there conflicts or discrepancies that need to be communicated? Am I protecting the accuracy of the work while operating safely?
THE OPPORTUNITY
This is an opportunity for a Field Survey Technician to develop construction surveying and layout skills while supporting TOLM Group's water/wastewater construction operations. The right person will gain hands-on experience with treatment plants, pump stations, underground utilities, piping, concrete, mechanical equipment, GPS, total stations, survey data, and machine-control activities while working alongside experienced construction and survey professionals.
